Position Summary & Role (general description of the role; e.g. expectations, key milestones, impact)
Job Responsibilities (core responsibilities; include people management if applicable)
*Employee is required to have extensive knowledge in Inductive Automation Ignition platform*
  • The Automation Engineer is responsible system owner (RSO) of automation and building management systems
  • Experience with networking including but not limited to VLAN, Subnets, IP protocols.
  • Participate in design, optimization, commissioning, or validation of newly procured or existing equipment as the automation lead.
  • Provide technical guidance and support for internal technicians and engineers, as well as support for contracted projects.
  • Assess equipment to determine adequate alarm setpoints, operating setpoints, and other automation specifications as required by customer
  • Assist system owners in process development as the automation subject matter expert
  • Heavy cross-functional teamwork support for Manufacturing, R&D, Quality Assurance, IT, and other departments as needed
  • High technical ability with a troubleshooting approach
  • Support facility commissioning and validation efforts
  • Seek for time or money saving efforts through statistical analysis of process and utility data for proactive management of risk
  • Will interface with several types of equipment and systems including but not limited to PLCs, SCADA, HMIs, Servers, Databases, and other control system equipment.
  • Develop SOPs, work instruction, test methods, requirement specs and other documents
  • Provide technical assistance to management team
  • Systems which this person will interact with include but are not limited to:
  • All other tasks as needed or assigned by supervisor
  • Contribute to optimization and improvements of facility products and systems
Plant Utilities – boilers, chillers, air compressors, air handler units, electrical systems
Clean Utilities – USP high purity water, water for injection, clean steam, clean compressed air, lab and manufacturing gas system
Automation – Johnson Controls Metasys building automation system (BAS), Inductive Automation SCADA, Rees alarm monitoring system
Preferred Experience, Education & Qualifications (Education/Degrees/Certifications)
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, or a related STEM or technical field (preferred) from and Accredited University.
  • Level IV BS and 7+ years’ experience in Automation, Instrumentation, and Controls role,, preferably in pharmaceutical environment
  • Level III BS and 5 - 7 years’ experience in Automation, Instrumentation, and Controls role, preferably in pharmaceutical environment
  • Level II BS and 3 - 5 years’ experience in Automation, Instrumentation, and Controls role, preferably in pharmaceutical environment
  • Level I BS and 0 - 3 years’ experience in Automation, Instrumentation, and Controls role, preferably in pharmaceutical environment
  • Strong leadership, technical, communication and organization skills in a cross-functional, dynamic, teamwork environment
  • All employees are expected to adhere to the Quality Management System established in the Quality Manual, Quality Policy, Standard Operating Procedures, Current Good Manufacturing Practices, and any other applicable regulations and standards to the duties within their role.

This job requires the employee to perform the following type of physical work:
  • Heavy work. Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Sedentary work. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
  • Very heavy work. Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

This job requires routine or periodic use of respiratory protection:
  • Loose-fitting respirators, such as hood or helmet style Personal Air Purifying Respirators (PAPR).
  • Tight-fitting respirators, such as half-masks or full facepieces which must seal to the face or neck.
