Data Engineer

Position based in Tampa, FL, but remote work anywhere in the U.S. will be considered.

What You'll Do

Responsible for expanding and optimizing our data and data pipeline architecture, optimizing data flow and collection, and designing and performing rigorous quality assurance. Serve as a data pipeline builder and data wrangler who enjoys optimizing data systems and building them from the ground up. Support our data scientists on investment research projects and will ensure optimal data delivery.

Additional Duties Include

• Optimize/normalize data structure;
• Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, and re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability;
• Build required infrastructure for optimal extraction, transformation and loading of data from various data sources;
• Create, document, and maintain optimal data pipeline architecture;
• Identify ways to improve data reliability, efficiency and quality;
• Working with stakeholders including the investment research and portfolio management teams to support their data infrastructure needs while assisting with data-related technical issues;
• Create self-service data extraction tools for investment research team members;
• Keep data separated and secure through multiple data centers.
• Create and maintain data dictionaries;
• Prepare data for predictive and prescriptive modeling;

Requirements

Master’s degree in Information Systems, Business Analytics, Computer Science or related and 1 year of relevant experience.

Position Also Requires

• Experience with object-oriented/object function scripting languages in one of the following languages: Python, Java, C++, or Scala.
• SQL knowledge and experience working with relational databases, query authoring (SQL) and working familiarity with a variety of databases.
• Experience with at least one of the following SQL technologies: Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL or Postgres.
• Experience with SSIS, SSRS, or SSMS.
• Experience with version control tools.
• Experience building and optimizing data pipelines, architectures and data sets.
• Prior work experience in financial domain is required.
• Experience building processes supporting data transformation, data structures, metadata, dependency and workload management.
• Experience performing root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes to answer specific business questions and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Experience with manipulating, processing and extracting value from large disconnected datasets.

Must pass written/verbal test of proficiency in the functions of the position.
