Major Duties


Under general supervision of the Director of the Matador Achievement Center, the Athletic Academic Support Coordinator assists with the coordination of the Matador Achievement Center tutoring, study hall, and peer learning assistant (PLA) programs. The incumbent contributes to the ongoing enhancement of program policies and procedures, helps with the recruitment and training of current CSUN students as tutors, study hall monitors, and PLA’s.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Assists student-athletes with their academic success through the incorporation of study strategies and learning techniques, and collaborates on individual learning plans for their designated population with athletic academic advisors, coaches, and the learning specialists.
  • Facilitates ongoing weekly meetings and regular dissemination of student reports, and collaborates with campus, conference and NCAA resources to ensure student-athlete academic success.
  • Participates in regular professional developments, creates and disseminates daily and weekly academic support reports to MAC staff, advisors and athletics (including coaches).


Qualifications


  • Experience working with a diverse population to include, administrators, coaches, staff, faculty, students and student-athletes preferred.
  • Experience working as a tutor coordinator with student-athletes or as an educator preferred.
  • A Master’s degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience.
  • Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a job-related field.
  • Equivalent to two (2) years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field.
  • Experience overseeing a population of student workers in addition to program oversight experience preferred.


Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities


  • Working knowledge of: the practices, procedures and activities of the program to which assigned; working knowledge of the methods and problems of organizational and program management; working knowledge of research and interview techniques; and working knowledge of the principles of individual and group behavior. Knowledge and understanding of NCAA, Big West and CSUN rules and regulations.
  • Ability to demonstrate: leadership, time management, interpersonal and communication skills; organized, attentive to details, with proficient technical skills.
  • Ability and specialized skills to: interpret and apply program rules and regulations; use initiative and resourcefulness in planning work assignments and in implementing long-range program improvements; obtain factual and interpretative information through interviews; reason logically; collect, compile, analyze and evaluate data and make verbal or written presentations based on these data.
  • Ability to: advise students individually and in groups on routine matters where required; recognize multicultural, multi-sexed and multi-aged value systems and work accordingly; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, CSU administrators, student organizations, private and public agencies and others in committee work, and student advising and community contacts; rapidly acquire a general knowledge of the overall operation, functions and programs of the campus to which assigned. Demonstrated ability to make decisions and carry through actions having implications with regard to other program or service areas Services Office.


Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule


  • HOURS: Full Time; 40 hours per week; Monday through Friday; may include evenings and weekends.
  • The position is currently hybrid (4 days in office, 1 day remote); however, this is subject to change based on student and/or operational needs.
  • REG: This is a Regular position with a one-year probationary period.
  • The anticipated HIRING RANGE: $4610 - $4610 per month, dependent upon qualifications and experience. The salary range for this classification is: $4610 - $6556 per month.
