Academic Coach

Academic coaches target executive functioning deficits in students through weekly sessions held 2+ times a week. Coaches help students develop organizational strategies and skills necessary for a successful student, such as time management, planning/prioritization, advocacy, and study skill awareness. Students range from elementary through college with various neurodevelopmental strengths and weaknesses. Weekly paid supervision ($20/hour) is provided by a licensed psychologist and/or learning specialist. Coaches meet with students in-person at our client's home or virtually ($30-$40/hour).

Tutors

Tutors will provide transcripts of coursework completed with A-/A for subjects they will tutor. Additionally, tutors must demonstrate instructional skills through a mock lesson interview. Tutors meet with students in-person in the client's home, or virtually. ($30/hour)

Math Tutors

We are also looking for individuals who can provide math tutoring for children who receive our academic coaching services. Math tutors must teach and remediate Algebra I & II, Geometry, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, and Calculus.

Science Tutors

We are also looking for individuals who can provide science tutoring for children who receive our academic coaching services. Tutors must teach and remediate Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. Those who can help with AP courses within science will be given priority. Tutors meet with students in-person or in the client's home ($30/hour).

Expectations and Protections

We are looking for highly professional and responsible individuals who can travel to homes within the South Bay (Palos Verdes to El Segundo) to offer academic support to students with unique learning challenges. Safety precautions are taken for in-person sessions in accordance with CDC guidelines, state mandates, and family preferences.

Tutors must be able to commit to 10 hours a week with one of the schedules below.

Schedule A

• Sunday - 2-6+ hours (more flexibility and employees can chose times, but usually late mornings and afternoons)
• Note: Most clients prefer in-home and potential hires should account for 10-30 minutes of commute between clients within the hours listed.
• Very few students can meet on a Friday or Saturday but it is not impossible
• (TIME) One hour of supervision
• T/TH -- 2-4 hours (typically between 3:00-8:00 p.m. - in-person)
• M/W -- 2-4 hours (typically between 3:00-8:00 p.m. - in-person)

Schedule B

• Mondays - 2-3 hours (typically between 3:00-8:00 p.m. - in-person)
• Tuesdays - 2-3 hours (typically between 3:00-8:00 p.m. - in-person)
• (TIME) One hour of supervision
• Wednesdays - 2-3 hours (typically between 3:00-8:00 p.m. - in-person)
• Friday/Saturday/Sundays - 0-2+ hours (see above) - typically mornings and afternoons
• Note: Potential hires should account for 10-30 minutes of commute between clients within the hours listed.
• Thursdays - 2-3 hours (typically between 3:00-8:00 p.m. - in-person)

Required:

• Minimum 10 hours of coaching or tutoring availability per week (must include afternoon, evenings, and/or weekend hours).
• Must be able to drive to homes within the South Bay
• Minimum 2 years working in an academic or therapeutic capacity with students.
• Must live in the South Bay, near Torrance, Palos Verdes, or Manhattan Beach
• Minimum Bachelor's degree in psychology, education, or related field with work experience. Master's degree (or current enrollment in graduate education) in related fields of study preferred.

Pay range: Academic Coaches $30-$40 an hour

Tutors: $25-$30 an hour
