Reports To: School Director


FLSA Classification: Certificated


Full-Time/Part-Time Status: Hourly, part-time, non-exempt


Regular/Temporary: Regular


Salary: Hourly Framework (Step 2, A-K) Range: $18.65 to $22.73/hour


Developed by a coalition of San Diego civic leaders and educators, High Tech High opened in September 2000 as a small public charter school with plans to serve approximately 450 students. HTH has evolved into an integrated network of sixteen charter schools serving approximately 6,350 students in grades K-12 across four campuses.

Job Summary


The Academic Coach is responsible for ensuring that students with diverse needs have access to our general education curriculum. Academic Coaches are essential to maintaining our low student-teacher ratio and ensuring all students get the individualized attention required for success. Academic Coach - Specialized offers 1:1 support for student(s) who needs additional support with activities of daily functions, including toileting.


Duties include:


  • Perform clerical support duties including typing, completing documents, forms, record, correspondence; which may include note taking for students
  • Establish rapport and a meaningful relationship with the referred student to assist in improving his/her behavior, educational performance, and social relationships
  • Assist with the instruction and supervision of student who may have learning differences
  • May administer and evaluate testing of student for general placement
  • May monitor classroom/instruct in temporary absence of teacher
  • Monitor student’s progress and provide input for evaluation and parent conference upon request
  • Assist with tutorial activities working with an individual student

Education And/Or Experience


  • 60 units of college courses completed
  • Understanding of FBAs and BIPs
  • 3-5 years of specialized experience working with students with behavior disorders; implementing BIPs and ABA strategies or
  • 3-5 years of experience working with students ages 5-18 or
  • 3-5 years of experience working with students with significant disabilities; toileting, tube feeding, supporting hygiene needs 1:1

This is an hourly position that can work variable hours up to 35 per week. This position does not qualify for benefits.
