Job Description
Purpose and Job Summary
ORIX Corporation USA is seeking Litigation Counsel to join the Legal and Compliance Team in our New York or Dallas office. The candidate will be responsible for assisting the Head of Litigation in managing and overseeing litigation matters for ORIX Corporation USA and its subsidiaries.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Identify ways to mitigate litigation risk.
  • Work with business teams to respond to third-party subpoenas; and
  • Assist with providing strategic advice for disputes and litigation both in the U.S;
  • Manage outside counsel retained for litigation matters;
  • Represent ORIX Corporation USA in a wide range of disputes and litigation;
In addition to litigation duties, an ideal candidate would have prior in-house experience and be able to assist with additional responsibilities such as:
  • Vendor contract review;
  • Advice regarding day-to-day employment issues;
  • Assist with escalating and evaluating insurance claims; and
  • Special projects for the Legal and Compliance Team.
  • Privacy advice and counsel;
Education, Skills & Experience
  • A Juris Doctor from an accredited US law school;
  • Prior in-house legal experience, preferably within Financial Services (but not required);
  • Ability to effectively present information to groups of peers and managers;
  • 3-7 years of experience with all aspects of litigation and disputes, including client counseling, motion practice, settlement negotiations and discovery;
  • Flexibility to take on new tasks and projects as they arise;
  • Entrepreneurial attitude with a desire to work in a collegial, team-first environment;
  • Ability to work under pressure with tight deadlines;
  • Ability to learn quickly and demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a high-performance team;
  • Ability to adjust priorities in a changing environment; and
  • Ability to manage, prioritize and follow through on numerous projects simultaneously;
  • Strong organizational skills, detail-oriented;
  • Must be articulate and self-motivated;
  • Licensed to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft (MS) Office, including Word and Excel, and similar systems;
  • Ability to initiate self-development when it comes to understanding and application of new regulations and business changes.
Annual base salary gross: 200,000 - 250,000 (NY only). The base salary range represents the estimated low and high end of ORIX USA's salary for this position. Actual base salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as the candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role. The base pay is one component of ORIX USA's total compensation package for employees.
