Responsibilities


Under general supervision of the Associate Vice President of Faculty Affairs, the Assistant Vice President, Faculty Programs and Initiatives coordinates and implements campus-wide faculty hiring according to EEO principles and best practices. The incumbent works with the deans and the Office of Equity and Compliance, leads the hiring of college-specific Faculty Equity and Compliance Representatives, and ensures appropriate training and guiding efforts to recruit and retain a diverse faculty workforce (both tenure-track and lecturer faculty).


  • Works collaboratively with Search and Screen Committees as well as other offices on campus to ensure the timely and successful hiring of faculty, and continues to implement efforts to retain faculty.
  • Encourages a courageous and resilient solution-oriented environment by participating in new opportunities to further the mission of the university, and participates in developing initiatives that further support the campus mission with a service-oriented and catalytic mind set.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Helps to facilitate the reappointment, tenure, and promotion (RTP) review process, and establishes an ethical and collegial work environment, promoting a collaborative, accountable and inclusive team.

Qualifications


  • Equivalent to graduation from an accredited institution with a Master's degree in a job-related field.
  • Staff supervision experience and academic administrative experience focused on developing and communicating equity-minded decision making, inclusive excellence, and faculty success highly preferred.
  • Equivalent to six (6) years of progressively responsible professional/administrative experience required; with three of the six years in a managerial role.


Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Leadership


  • Demonstrated commitment to employee development, recognition, and accountability to further operational goals.
  • Lead varying initiatives through a collaborative, service-oriented and communicative approach.
  • Demonstrated: record of achievement in working within a diverse community of students, faculty, and staff; management and organizational skills; commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and access; ability to handle several projects simultaneously; excellent public speaking and presentation skills with experience delivering presentations to diverse audiences; excellent written and oral communication skills. Demonstrated experience in academic personnel decision-making, especially with university policies for RTP, recruitment, and retention in a collective bargaining setting.
  • Lead diverse teams to support the operational mission and vision of employers by fostering an ethical, inclusive and collegial work environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to support ongoing improvement through courageous, resilient, and catalytic leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to: work effectively and collaboratively with colleges, other units in the division, other divisions across the university, and Office of the Chancellor; function successsfully in a collective bargaining environment; demonstrated ability to serve effectively as a member of an academic administrative team; deal discreetly, effectively, and confidentially with sensitive faculty issues; work in a diverse higher education environment are required.


Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule


  • The position is currently hybrid (3 days in office, 2 days remote); however, this is subject to change based on student and/or operational needs.
  • The anticipated HIRING RANGE: $165,000 – $178,000, dependent upon qualifications and experience.
  • Salary is commensurate with knowledge, skills, and experience. The University offers excellent fringe benefits.
