Job Description
Summary


The Assistant Supervisor is responsible for performing, evaluating, and reporting of technical laboratory procedures on patient specimens for use in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Follows established procedures to ensure laboratory quality control and compliance with professional standards of practice. The Lead Technologist may perform administrative and supervisory responsibilities of the laboratory section assuming additional technical or non-technical responsibilities as needed.


Detailed Responsibilities


  • Effectively communicates with nursing and medical staff.
  • Follows established procedures for laboratory quality control, ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, quality standards, compliance activities, and policies and procedures.
  • May provide supervision of a laboratory section.
  • Observe and instruct student technologists and new or current employees.
  • Reports test results in a timely manner according to established laboratory protocols.
  • Assists or provides monitoring and coaching of team members and provides input in the evaluation of team members performance.
  • Review and troubleshoot quality control and equipment issues.
  • Effectively manages resources such as productivity, supplies, instruments and equipment. Plans work and completes job responsibilities in an efficient and productive manner.
  • Ensures staff compliance with regulatory, departmental and organizational policies, procedures and protocols.
  • May assess competency of team members.
  • Assists the Supervisor and/or Manager with writing and reviewing of policies and procedures.
  • May perform method validations and ongoing method assessments.
  • Performs accurate and appropriate testing of specimens received in the laboratory, according to established laboratory protocol and procedures.

  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Scientist program


Other Information


Complexity of Work: Intermediate knowledge of laboratory procedures and instrumentation. Ability to effectively relate and communicate with internal and external customers. Intermediate knowledge of laboratory information systems. Requires critical thinking skills, effective communication skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.


Required Work Experience: Five (5) years of experience as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist.


  • Florida State licensure as a Clinical Laboratory Supervisor in the defined area of responsibility.
