Position description

The Department of Integrative Biology and Physiology the University of California, Los Angeles, seeks applicants for an Assistant Project Scientist position. The individual will have the opportunity to join a new and growing team under the supervision of the PI, Dr. Kacie Deters. Research in the lab is focused on dementia risk factors in the Black community. Therefore, there is a preference for candidates who have experience and interest working with community organizations in the Black community of the greater Los Angeles area (e.g. local churches, senior centers, community centers). The individual will assist in the engagement, recruitment, and management of study participants. This candidate will also assist with participant enrollment, conduct participant informed consent, track and administer questionnaires, coordinate and track participant follow-up, and maintain database on study recruitment efforts and participant payments. Successful candidates will be expected to publish results in scientific journals, present results at national and international meetings, and assist the PI with grant writing and review. Extensive knowledge and expertise with project management and Institutional Review Board (IRB) proposals are required.


The candidate must hold a PhD in a biology-related field or sociology, and additional training in social sciences, sociology, qualitative and quantitive methods, cultural studies, and community based research. health equity research. The candidate must have at least three years of research experience beyond the PhD, with demonstrated ability to conduct and publish high-level research on health equity research.
