FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

At Baruch College we believe that student success is everyone’s responsibility

The English Department of Baruch College, CUNY, invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor with a specialization in Postcolonial/South Asian/Global Anglophone Literature.

We are seeking a scholar whose scope of expertise includes literature that is both regional and global and who is able to link texts across the specific historical lineaments of postcoloniality and decoloniality. Candidates should possess a specialization in South Asian literature and literatures of the South Asian diaspora, especially as they intersect with and deepen knowledge of the theoretical and pedagogical implications of the Global Anglophone. Teaching opportunities will include courses in postcolonial literature, Great Works of Literature (our college-wide world literature requirement), First-Year Writing, and other courses within the successful candidate’s research and teaching purview.

Our Department and College are committed to building and supporting a diverse faculty that values undergraduate teaching and mentorship as well as interdisciplinary research and teaching. We strongly encourage applications from individuals who are under-represented in the profession across categories including race, class, ethnic and national origin, physical ability, and gender and sexual identity. Baruch College serves one of the most culturally diverse undergraduate student bodies in the nation and has been recognized as a foremost engine of upward mobility for students in New York City.

QUALIFICATIONS

Ph.D. degree in area(s) of experience or equivalent. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.

COMPENSATION

$72,667 - $90,375; commensurate with qualifications and experience.

CUNY offers faculty a competitive compensation and benefits package covering health insurance, pension and retirement benefits, paid parental leave, and savings programs. We also provide mentoring and support for research, scholarship, and publication as part of our commitment to ongoing faculty professional development.
