Job Description
About Binghamton University
Binghamton University is a world-class institution that unites more than 130 broadly interdisciplinary educational programs with some of the most vibrant research in the nation. Our unique character - shaped by outstanding academics, facilities and community life - promotes extraordinary student success.
Binghamton merges rigorous academics, distinguished faculty and state-of-the-art facilities to engage and challenge its 18,000 students. The high-achieving Binghamton student body also represents a great diversity of life experiences, from first-generation college-goers to international students. Beyond their talent, these classmates share a desire to shape the future through technology, insight, intellectual exploration and community service.

The Department of Psychology at Binghamton University, part of the State University of New York (SUNY) system is seeking exceptional candidates for an Assistant or Associate Professor position (tenure-track and tenured) to begin Fall 2024 as part of a newly funded University research initiative in the Neuroscience of Aging. The mission of our recent cluster hiring in the Neuroscience of Aging and Disease is to develop an internationally recognized translational program to understand the aging brain, age-related changes in behavior, and age-related diseases. The goal is to become a hub in developing and implementing the most state-of-the-art techniques for the study, prevention, and treatment of issues associated with normal and pathological aging.
ASSISTANT OR ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR OF BEHAVIORAL NEUROSCIENCE: We are interested in candidates who use animal models to determine genetic, epigenetic, cellular/molecular, and/or neuroanatomical bases underlying neural network dysfunction and behavior caused by aging and age-related brain disorders like stroke and neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease and related dementias. Scientific approaches are open but will be expected to reflect the current state-of-the-art within contemporary neuroscience.
Binghamton University enrolls approximately 17,700 undergraduate and graduate students, including more than 5,000 students of color and 1,500 international students from 100 countries. The campus is located on 887 acres (including a 350-acre nature preserve) above the Susquehanna River and received the highest "green" rating in the Princeton Review's ranking of colleges by environmental sustainability. Greater Binghamton is a metropolitan area of about 250,000 with an affordable cost of living and excellent public schools. There are many outdoor and cultural activities demonstrating a unique blend of urban and rural appeal. The employment base of the region is led by the university, electronics and health care.
The Department of Psychology is dedicated to building a diverse and inclusive teaching, research, and working environment. Applicants who share this goal and who are members of underrepresented groups, women, veterans, and/or persons with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply. Binghamton University is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer.
Requirements
Successful Assistant Professor candidates will be expected to establish an independent research program that will attract external funding; evidence of the capacity to develop an externally supported research program is expected. The successful candidate will join a productive, enthusiastic, and interactive faculty and will contribute to both graduate (PhD) and undergraduate (Psychology and Integrative Neuroscience majors) supervision and instruction. Competitive Associate Professor candidates will be expected to have current, substantive external support. The Psychology Department consists of 36 faculty in three graduate programs: Behavioral Neuroscience, Cognitive and Brain Sciences, and Clinical Science.
