Job Description

Southwest Foodservice Excellence is seeking an Assistant Foodservice Director/Assistant General Manager to join their team in Person County, NC!


Summary of Position:

Support the General Manager of Food Services with all aspects of the operations/culinary including but not limited to: Food Production, HR, Finance, Marketing, etc. Assist the GM with overseeing and coordinating the planning, organizing, training and leadership necessary to achieve stated objectives in sales, costs, employee retention, customer service, food quality, cleanliness, sanitation and district satisfaction.


Responsibilities:

  • Fill in where needed to ensure the ultimate customer service experience as well as maintaining efficient operations
  • Ensure that the Company’s operations for which this position is responsible follow sound financial practices, comply with applicable legal requirements and comply with established practices in all regards
  • Ensure that all products are received in correct unit count and condition and deliveries are performed in accordance with company and district receiving policies and procedures
  • Make employment and termination decisions consistent with General Manager’s guidelines for approval or review
  • Responsible and accountable for all aspects of the activities and operations related to the site to which you are assigned and for the duties within the scope of the position’s responsibilities
  • Control cash and other receipts by adhering to cash handling and reconciliation procedures in accordance with company and the districts policies and procedures
  • Communicate with district administrators/client to ensure expectations are being met
  • Schedule labor as required by using M.P.L.H. (Meals Per Labor Hour) while ensuring that all positions are staffed when and as needed and labor cost objectives are met
  • Oversee and ensure that company policies on employee performance appraisals are followed and completed on a timely basis
  • Other duties, as assigned
  • Continually strive to develop your staff in all areas of managerial and professional development
  • Responsible for the supervision and evaluation of subordinate employees
  • Provide advice and suggestions to General Manager as needed
  • Assist GM with monthly manager meetings and trainings
  • Fully understand and comply with all applicable federal, state, county and municipal laws, regulations and rules including those that pertain to health, safety and labor requirements in regards to company, district employees, customers and operations
  • Achieve company objectives in sales, service, quality, appearance of facility and sanitation/cleanliness through training of employees and creating a positive, productive working environment
  • Ensure that all students, staff and parents feel welcome and are given responsive, friendly and courteous service at all times
  • Ensure that all food and products are consistently prepared and served according to company recipes, portioning, cooking and serving standards


Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of foodservice experience, school foodservice preferred
  • Possess basic math skills and have the ability to operate a cash register or POS system
  • Basic knowledge of food and beverage typically seen in front-of-the-house operations and/or assistant management positions
  • Must be able to communicate clearly and professionally with other Managers, Directors, Administrators, students and parents
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft: Word, Excel, Publisher and Outlook


Physical Demands & Work Environment

  • Ability to speak, read, write and understand English and/or dominate language at the school
  • Be able to work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 5 hours)
  • Be physically able to lift, reach, bend and stoop frequently lift up to 50 pounds
