As directed by the Nurse Manager, the Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) assists with interviewing and hiring staff for area of responsibility and assists with implementation strategies to retain nursing team members. The ANM assists in assessing, planning, coordinating, and evaluating the clinical and operational functions for their area of responsibility. This individual helps manage staffing resources to provide optimum patient care based on patient’s needs and acuity and is accountable for appropriate utilization of personnel and material resources in accordance with budget. The ANM supports and promotes the Shared Governance model, assists in the development and maintenance of policies and procedures, and is accountable for compliance with regulatory standards.

The ANM promotes a safe environment and performs all related job responsibilities in a safe manner, maintains clinical and professional competency as appropriate to the age, developmental stages, and special needs of the patients served, and acts as a mentor and role model to teammates. The ANM is responsible and accountable for assisting with the care of assigned patients, as necessary, and is expected to practice autonomously within the score of professional standards, the rules and regulations established by the state’s Board of Nursing and demonstrates knowledge of policies and procedures within UNC Health Blue Ridge.

Range of motion within functional limits. Requires frequently: pushing 40 lbs.; pulling 80 lbs.; standing; walking; repetitive trunk rotation-standing; manual dexterity; both handedness (both hands must be used). Requires near vision; far vision; hearing (requires hearing whispered voice). Requires visual color discrimination, and visual depth perception.

• Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing
• BSN required. Appropriate professional leadership certification or certification in area of practice preferred. Certification required within 2 years if not currently certified.
• Minimum two years of clinical nursing experience, one year as charge/supervisory/leadership required.
