Job Description

Under the guidance and oversight of the Director, the Assistant Director of Information Technology has the responsibility of assisting in developing, implementing and maintaining the City’s IT infrastructure, policies and procedures. This position is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the IT Department, supervising staff and collaborating with other departments to ensure that the organization's technology needs are met while providing complex administrative support to the Director. The Assistant Director is responsible for identifying areas for process improvement and potential implementation of innovative practices and recommending changes to existing policies and procedures within the guidelines and goals established.

Job Qualifications – Education, experience, and training that are required or desirable in order to effectively perform the job at the time of hire. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered. Additional requirements and/or substitutions may be requested and require the approval of HR.

  • Certifications in project management (e.g., PMP) and ITIL are desirable.
  • Supervisory experience required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or a related field required.
    • Additional job experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Minimum of 8 years of related experience required.
    • Additional job-related advanced degrees or certifications may be considered in lieu of experience.
  • Valid driver's license required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities – May be representative, but not all-inclusive, of those knowledge, skills, and abilities commonly associated with this position.

  • In-depth knowledge of IT industry trends.
  • Extensive knowledge of Ethernet networking topologies and wiring.
  • Ability to direct and monitor department operations and services and direct procedural changes as needed to improve workflow and productivity.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to maintain focused concentration.
  • Proficiency in the use of basic business software (word processing, spreadsheets, email, presentations) and basic office equipment.
  • Ability to develop goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish work for self and others, as well as concentrate on multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Good judge of talent.
