Reporting to the Dean of the College of Science, this critical position is responsible for setting the vision, implementing strategic initiatives, and coordinating information technology activities within the College of Science. This newly created position serves as the college’s primary advisor on technical issues pertaining to the planning and delivery of the college's information technology and services.
Providing leadership and technical expertise regarding the strategic planning, development, and deployment of technology solutions for the college are integral responsibilities for this role. The Director of Information Technology will provide oversight and coordination of IT security activities, network infrastructure, web application development, and educational and research technology applications.
The Director will coordinate with the Division of IT, work with relevant College of Science unit IT professionals, and serve as a resource to on- and off-campus IT professionals.
A successful Director of IT:
Leads the college IT function with technical expertise and oversight. This position will consult and engage with faculty and staff to support and strengthen the instructional, research and outreach mission of the departments and college.
Is a strategic manager with an emphasis on service excellence. Professional written and verbal communication are crucial in the daily responsibilities of this position. Strong interpersonal skills will ensure that the goals of the position are met while effectively working on the coordination and implementation of IT resources.
Understands and re-enforces collaboration and compliance in a professional manner. College faculty and staff will look to this role for structured guidance and support on the IT function. Building positive relationships will be key to the success of this position.
Recognizes the importance of strategic initiatives, partnerships, and deadlines. The Director of IT advocates for the efficient and effective use of computing resources while establishing and managing standards for computing support.

Required Qualifications
Master's degree or relevant training and work experience at a level which equates to an advanced degree.
Management level experience with progressive leadership responsibilities.
Demonstrated technical and administrative experience.
Sophisticated and comprehensive knowledge of multiple operating systems and mainstream Office applications.
Significant experience managing an information technology office to include its budget, staff, and technology operations.
Working knowledge of computer and network security best practices.
Proven track record of staying informed on the current trends and practices in IT.
Exhibited expertise in troubleshooting and problem solving.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in higher education.
Experience with database development.
Significant and progressively responsible management experience in an information technology field.
