Our location in Lake Forest, Illinois currently has an opportunity for an Area Medical Director, Americas.
The Opportunity:
The Area Medical Director, Americas provides daily leadership and support for the Medical Affairs team within the US, Canada and LATAM. The position will be responsible for strategy and leadership in education, health advocacy/policy, commercial/marketing activities, customer interactions and KOL engagement. Leads a team of medical directors in being medical representative to the in-country medical community and professional societies.
What You’ll Do:
- Draws upon their therapeutic area expertise to develop and oversee medical and scientific research within their System areas to engage collaborators and clinicians, create impactful publications and develop a medical/scientific community of peers
- Interfaces with Marketing and Commercial teams regarding medical and scientific research as appropriate to support and align strategies
- Accountable for research scope, maintains system budget and completion of projects within budgetary timelines
- Provide subject matter expertise to projects within their System, as well as acting as the subject matter expert in cross-functional teams, lending support as needed (for example, clinical studies, ad promo, marketing, commercial)
- Creates pathways for medical and scientific insights via key opinion leader development, hosting engagement within activities such as medical advisory boards, medical and scientific conferences, consensus conferences, etc.
- Develops, supports and/or guides educational symposiums, lectures, materials and engagements for the relevant Systems
- Finds meaningful ways to impact patient care through guidelines, initiatives, cross-divisional activities and associated mechanisms
- Creates opportunites and fosters relationships with the medical community, policymakers and key opinion leaders within the relevant Systems to support the engagement strategy globally
- Provides strategic leadership to the Medical and Scientific System Research Team to drive innovation
Leadership Activities:
- Team oriented with the confidence, maturity and integrity to work effectively as a member of the medical affairs team
- Create a collaborative, innovative culture within their own individual team, and promote such behaviors across the organization
- Creates, develops and implements a strategic vision for the System within Area; determines priorities, defines what work should be accomplished, and decides how work should be accomplished then executes within budgetary and timing targets
- Excellent communication/organization skills
- High personal integrity and ethics
- Prepare and present written and oral reports and other presentations to internal and external audiences, including senior management. Adjusts presentation style and content to suit the audience
- Interface with other areas within the organization to provide expertise, create unified strategy, and drive innovation and excellence within medical affairs and the overall business
- Promotes a work environment that supports team effectiveness. Provides feedback to team members on performance
Expertise and Problem-Solving Duties:
- Aligning the various KOLs, researchers, physicians and key stakeholders to a common goal
- Understanding the medical and clinical utility of new innovative disease biomarkers within relevant System Areas
- Identify strategic indicatives and research, while understanding the resource requirements, cost, and time schedules, aligning multiple stakeholders and creating a robust research program
- Identify and create research frameworks that develop new opportunities to improve patient care, either through outcome studies, biomarker discovery, or basic science research leading to new technologies
- Understand the unique challenges faced by laboratories and clinicians within the relevant Systems to help empower solutions and drive innovation; bring medical and scientific insights back into the organization, leading to better product design and development, engagement with collaborators, or new opportunities for the business

The base pay for this position is $155,300.00 – $310,700.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
