Required Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of related experience

Preferred Qualifications:

Current DOE security clearance or ability to secure a DOE security clearance within one year of employment
Previous experience as a Contract Security Officer or Facility Security Officer including specialized training in one of more of the following areas: security, export control, and emergency management/continuity of operations programs.
Experience in developing policies and procedures related to assigned safeguards and security and export control responsibilities.
Prior experience that demonstrates interaction with University, local, state, and federal agencies.

Ames Laboratory is seeking candidates to fulfill the role of Security and Emergency Services (SES) Assistant Director. Reporting directly to the Security and Emergency Services Director, this position manages safeguard and security activities as described in Ames Laboratory’s prime contract and applicable DOE Orders, Directives, and regulations, and includes, but may not be limited to, management of the Laboratory’s Unclassified Foreign National Access, Export Control, Emergency Management, Continuity of Operations and security alert system programs. The Unclassified Foreign National Access Program, as prescribed by DOE directives, provides the mechanism for foreign national access to the Laboratory. The Export Control program ensures the Laboratory is compliant with Federal Law and Regulation in the proper export and control of sensitive technologies and information. The SES Assistant Director will also support the management of Plant Protection Section responsibilities and the SES Director as needed.

Responsibilities will include interpreting guidance, creating applicable policies, monitoring activity, leading projects within program scope and communicating to all levels of Ames Laboratory.

The successful candidate will possess excellent program management capabilities, written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work with a diverse clientele in administering safeguard and security programs. A proactive approach, with the ability to analyze situations, solve problems, advise management, and develop policies and procedures within the assigned program responsibilities will be important to be successful in this position. The candidate should also have the ability to use computer software for the preparation of computer-based training, database applications, work processing, virtual meetings, PowerPoint presentations, communication, report writing and/or data analysis.
