GHD has an excellent opportunity for an Emergency Management Specialist to join our Emergency Response and Preparedness (GHD FIRST) team. This opportunity can be based out of our Illinois or Minnesota offices.

This position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in:

  • Prepare technical correspondence, project proposals, technical reports, work plans, and project specifications including cost estimates and budgets - Data compilation, reduction, interpretation, evaluation/comparison to regulatory standards
  • Be available for afterhours response to attend emergencies to conduct and manage Incident Management Team (IMT) functions and to support local field staff as they perform the following functions (inspection, maintenance, monitoring, construction oversight, air monitoring, operating UAVs, and sampling efforts at the project site)
  • Direct, manage, and grow emergency management services and support spill response services in midwest and surrounding areas
  • Coordinate small- to large-scale projects including maintenance of project schedules and budgets and coordination of project staff.
  • Direct, manage, and contribute to the delivery of emergency management (EM) services such as response/ regulatory planning, training, exercises, Incident Command System (ICS) management, and assessments (After Action Reports [AAR] and Hazard, Risk Vulnerability, Capability Assessments [HRVCA])
  • Develop partnerships with local/regional Oil Spill Recovery Organization (OSRO) to provide support services such as: air monitoring; environmental sampling, documentation, risk assessment; ICS management; Shoreline Cleanup and Assessment Technique (SCAT); waste management, etc.

What you will bring to the team:

  • Must reside near our Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Missouri, Kansa, Iowa, or Minnesota offices surrounding area
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in emergency management, compliance consulting, spill response, assessment, and cleanup preferred
  • BS in Environmental Engineering or natural resource field (such as chemistry, biology, earth sciences, environmental sciences)
  • PHMSA , DOT, EPA, FEMA, and/or US Coast Guard experience and regulatory knowledge is a plus
  • Experience with the Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program (HSEEP) for the management, design and development, conduct, evaluation, and improvement planning of exercises is a plus
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft suite of programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams)
  • Willingness to respond to call outs during non-routine working hours
  • Must have a current Passport and Drives License
