The Decision Intelligence Lab at Alibaba DAMO Academy is dedicated to advancing optimization and machine learning techniques, creating decision software systems, and enhancing business operational efficiency. Our offerings include the MindOpt Optimization Modeling and Solver Suite, a Reinforcement Learning toolbox, a time-series forecasting toolbox with explainable AI features, and other innovative products. These are used in the energy and power sector, cloud computing, supply chains, and e-commerce.

Our team comprises of leading scientists and engineers from universities such as Columbia, GeorgiaTech, MIT, PKU, Stanford, Tsinghua, UCLA, and more. Several team members have earned prestigious awards such as ACM and Olympiad medals, IEEE Young Scholar awards, and best paper awards. We have published in renowned international conferences and journals in fields such as machine learning, operations research, computational mathematics, management science, and more. The Decision Intelligence Lab at Alibaba DAMO Academy is seeking exceptional optimization and machine learning scientists and engineers. Job responsibilities include the development of one or more of the following components:

1. Traditional and ML-based methods for continuous, mixed-integer, combinatorial optimization, stochastic, and dynamic-programming problems.

2. Software systems that integrate ML and optimization.

3. Distributed large-scale methods, such as those used in power grids and cloud computing.

4. Algebraic modeling systems, model decomposition methods, and auto-differentiation techniques.

5. Various acceleration, stochastic, and decomposition methods for problems with favorable structures.

6. Applications of optimization in renewable energy, power grid controls, supply chains, and e-commerce.

The Decision Intelligence Lab at Alibaba DAMO Academy is looking for individuals with the following qualifications:

1. A Master's degree or higher in fields such as operations research, optimization, industrial engineering, applied mathematics, computer science, electronic engineering, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, etc.

2. Strong expertise in one area of optimization or machine learning, or experience in the efficient design of complex systems for numerical computation.

3. Proficiency in coding in C/C++ and Python. Familiarity with assembly programming or cloud-based APIs is a plus.

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $128,760 and $210,600/year. However, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.

Alibaba U.S. based full time regular employees have access to medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) plan and basic life insurance, and wellbeing benefits like FSA, subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable plans then in effect. U.S. based employees are also eligible to receive up to 12 paid holidays, accrue up to 15 paid vacation days for this position, and receive up to 72 hours paid sick time (front-loaded) per calendar year.
