ADMISSIONS COORDINATOR



Admissions Nurse Job Summary


The Admission Nurse Coordinator is the first point of contact between a resident and the Nursing Facility. In this career, pre-admission screening to provide a complete medical assessment is one of your primary duties. You collect a medical history of the patient and ensure that they have completed all necessary forms and insurance obligations. You also do any additional preoperative paperwork. Depending on the facility, you may also administer medications as part of a treatment plan. As an admissions nurse, you work as part of a team that includes all personnel. Some individuals specialize in a particular discipline such as critical care or rehabilitation.


Your primary responsibilities include administrative tasks, such as collecting medical information and ensuring that all insurance paperwork is in order. However, since you are a qualified nurse, we may expect you to provide patient care as well. While you will be working with a team of other medical professionals, you may administer medicine or take vitals when necessary. You will also educate and examine residents for potential issues before operations.


Admissions Nurse Duties And Responsibilities


  • Obtain medical history from patients upon admission
  • Coordinate with physicians to provide comprehensive patient care
  • Collect insurance information and have patients fill out the proper paperwork
  • Educate patients on operations, treatment, and recovery
  • Examine pre-op patients for issues or abnormalities


Admissions Nurse Requirements And Qualifications


  • Associate degree in nursing; bachelor’s preferred
  • Familiarity with pre- and post-op procedures
  • Experience working with vulnerable populations
  • Strong communication and patient care skills
  • LPN License


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


  • Interview applicants for admission and acquire necessary information and


documentation; complete required forms.


  • Handle financial arrangements related to admission.
  • Conduct tours of the facility and grounds for potential residents, families,


community, and representative from placement agencies and organizations.


  • Attend and participate in in-service educational programs particularly those that relate to the psychosocial needs of the elderly, community resources, and admission requirements (Title XVII and Title XIX), etc.
  • Effective time management.
  • Act as a liaison with discharge planners.
  • Effective verbal and written communications skills.
  • Other Duties as assigned.
  • Coordinate and participate in the facility events as appropriate (i.e., health fairs, family dinner, etc.).
  • Develop long-range and short-range marketing plans, establishing goals and objectives.
  • Follow-up on inquiries and maintain current and active waiting lists.
  • Travel and conduct one-on-one or other external community relations activities.
  • Prepare in conjunctions with Residents’ Account Manager, daily and weekly reports, and monthly and annual summaries of admissions, discharges, sources, classifications, lengths of stay, etc.
  • Maintain close personal contact with all referral sources.
  • Participate in quality assurance programs.
  • Lecture before groups relative to health-care services available.
  • Maintain professional confidentiality.
