Description: The University of Tennessee College of Law invites qualified applicants for the position of Administrative Specialist II. This position provides the key administrative support to a curricular center at the College of Law and its Director, as well as the sole faculty support for the Director and approximately 30 adjunct faculty; to aid the Director in planning and carrying out center activities; to provide first-line support for students in the curriculum; to aid in planning, organizing, and conducting adjunct orientation and evaluations; to include assisting adjuncts with scheduling, communicating with students, posting materials, acting as a repository for assignments, and coordinating and providing technical assistance, including providing all classroom technology; to facilitate the Director's work with the College's moot court and mock trial programs; to provide first-line trouble-shooting for technology issues in the Center; and to provide information to potential students, guest speakers, and other visitors to the Center.

Position responsibilities for the Administrative Specialist II include, but are not limited to:


  • Design marketing and messaging for external events and disseminate communication to various constituents about events.
  • Work independently with two student organizations to plan, organize, schedule, and sponsor internal programs involving judges, lawyers, and court staff.
  • Serve as faculty support for the Director of the Center for Advocacy and Dispute Resolution.
  • Plan and assist with adjunct orientation plan and prepare reports of adjunct impact, evaluation, and need.
  • Compose messages and communicate activities of interest to the College of Law community.
  • Design, edit, proof-read, and disseminate bi-annual center newsletter.
  • Providing support for more than 30 adjunct faculty related to class schedules, book orders, technology needs, and student communication.


Required Experience And Abilities


  • Candidates are required to have an Associate’s degree and experience working in an office setting.
  • A Bachelor’s degree and 1-2 years of experience in a higher education/office setting is preferred.


The Administrative Specialist II Must Have


  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office with mastery of Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Adobe, One Drive, video-capture software, and upload and download software; knowledge of web-based search engines
  • Professional oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to use standard office equipment, including telephone, copier, fax, and video-conferencing equipment
  • Ability to work in a professional work environment and knowledge of standards for professional oral and written communication
  • Ability to compile, organize, and duplicate materials and to draft, edit, and finalize correspondence
  • Organizational skills, including prioritization and time management and storing and organizing a large amount of teaching and research materials
  • Attention to detail, dependability, and punctuality;
  • Ability to plan events, including preparing Evites, messaging, booking venues, vendors, travel, and auxiliary services, and planning menus
  • Ability to follow instructions, stay on task, and to keep supervisor informed of progress and seek assistance as needed
  • Ability to interact with all kinds of people in a professional and courteous manner
  • Ability to work in high-pressure situations and to maintain productivity when working in a solitary setting
