Job Description
Essential Job Functions


Works under the general supervision of the Executive Director of the Memphis Office of Resources and Enterprise (MORE). Performs a variety of administrative support duties, such as composing complex but non-technical correspondence. Receives guests and telephone calls, provides basic information and relays messages. Distributes, routes, and files incoming and outgoing mail as required. Locates and assembles information for various reports, briefings, conferences, etc. Maintains confidential files and schedule of appointments. Responds to complaints, requests and inquiries or refers complex issues/ questions to the Executive Director. Schedules meetings and travel, records mileage, and secures accommodations for travel. Prepares and verifies time cards and reports. Maintains adequate supply of office supplies. Performs miscellaneous typing/filing and enters/receives data utilizing computer equipment. Responsible for the administrative and support operations of this department including basic social media communication. Represents MORE in the public at some events and meetings as directed. Advises Executive Director of office or procedural issues and other matters.


OTHER FUNCTIONS 1. Performs additional functions (essential or otherwise) which may be assigned.


TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS Must be able to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing. Requires the ability to operate various general office equipment such as a computer, copier, and telephone. Must be able to utilize word processing and various other software packages such as Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint.


Typical Working Conditions


Work is performed in an office environment and involves contact with the general public. Involves contact with staff, management, and the general public.


Minimum Qualifications


High school diploma or equivalent and five (5) years' administrative support experience; or any combination of experience and training which enables one to perform the essential job functions. Training in Office Automation preferred. May be required to complete a battery of tests as deemed appropriate by Human Resources to evaluate various administrative office skills.


The City Charter requires that City Employees must establish residence within Shelby County withing six (6) months from the date of employment. Proof of residence will be required at the time of hire.
