Compensation:
- Salary can vary depending upon education, experience, or qualifications.
- Hourly Rate: $13.50-$16.00. *This position is eligible for a temporary $4.00 per hour special differential for all hours worked. This differential is only temporary and can end at the Governors discretion at any time.*

Position Summary & Responsibilities:
Position Summary:
The Kansas Soldiers Home, a state veterans home located in Southwest Kansas, is currently seeking a full time Administrative Assistant to work under the Superintendent of the Home. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, accurate and able to multi task.
Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
- Be the receptionist for the Superintendent,
- Sort and file correspondence and documents in a filing system. Retrieves material from files upon request and keeps records of the movement of file materials.
- Assists with weekly transportation schedule,
- Collects, receives, and distributes a variety of reports, correspondence and mail for distribution within the facility, state and local government, along with specific vendors.
- Types minutes for meetings held by the Superintendent or Business Manager, utilizing notes taken by a designated staff member present at the meeting.
- Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent
- Makes calls to Cottage Residents daily for Census reporting purposes
- Perform a variety of clerical duties – typing, filing, copying, answer phones, relay messages
Qualifications:
Education:
- General
Minimum Qualifications:
- Six months of experience in general office, clerical or administrative support work. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency
- Required Skills and Abilities: Ability to: 1) report to work as scheduled and remain on duty, 2) understand and follow verbal and written instructions; read and comprehend written materials to include rules, regulations and procedures, 3) establish and maintain effective working relationships with residents and staff, 4) communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, 5) proofread and edit for grammar, spelling, syntax and style; detect discrepancies in information or records, 6) record, file and transmit information, 7) use Microsoft Office programs to produce letters, memo, reports and staffing spreadsheets, and 8) maintain appropriate professional boundaries with residents.
- Must have a knowledge of: 1) English, spelling, grammar and arithmetic, 2) rules, regulations, policies and procedures, and 3) formats for memos, letters, reports and databases.

Must successfully pass background check as required by K.S.A. 39-970.
As authorized by the 2018 Kansas Legislature, effective July 1, 2018, K.S.A. 75-4362 is amended to designate all positions with the Kansas Commission on Veterans’ Affairs office, to include both the Kansas Soldiers’ Home and Kansas Veterans’ Home as Safety Sensitive positions and subject to the drug testing program. All applicants with a conditional offer of employment on or after July 1, 2018, shall be required to submit to a drug screening test.
