Intern Analyst (Pipeline)

Application Deadline

01-Aug-2023

Your role

Financial markets are constantly changing, and the skillsets required to succeed are no exception. Quantitative analyst is a far-reaching term which ranges from research and programming, to advanced algorithms that operate in extremely competitive marketplaces. These key aspects also extend to applying financial modelling techniques to help make the best trading decisions.
On the trading desks, traders are expected to blend the understanding of models with an informed view of markets, often using automated algorithms to make trades. On the more analysis focused desks, analysts are expected to work with the trading desks to build solutions to client demands, working on projects from idea inception and solution design, through to implementation. These desks can work with algorithms used for agency trading by clients or principal trading desks involved in trading with clients using an internal book. Quantitative analysts make use of technical fields including mathematics, statistics, probability theory, machine learning, and data science.
Interns in the quantitative summer analyst program will assist in building models used for trading, evaluating, and improving existing models to adapt to ever changing market conditions. Interns will learn and work with key concepts related to trading such as risk management, market impact, market making, and finding market signals. Interns will have a hands-on project using the latest techniques from both the industry and academia, to address real business issues.

Your team

You'll be working on three trading desks throughout the summer. Through your desk assignments, you’ll develop a solid understanding of the global markets while building your communication, quantitative, and analytical skills. You’ll be able to draw on the strength of UBS platforms, products, services, and people to help give your clients whatever they need.

Your expertise

Basic: Candidates must graduate from a 4-year bachelor’s degree program, a master’s degree program, or an international equivalent between December 2024 and June 2025.
Preferred: We look for individuals who seek challenge in an intellectually stimulating environment. A vast majority of our hires have advanced degrees in mathematics, statistics, econometrics, physical sciences, or financial engineering. Numerate degrees in fields like computer science or engineering, where courses have an emphasis on mathematics, programming, machine learning, and data sciences are also particularly welcome. Proficiency in at least one programming (Java, Python, R, etc..) is preferred.
We have found that individual qualifications are more important than a specific major or concentration thus there is no prerequisite coursework.
Other qualities ideal candidates demonstrate:
Skills: Strong quantitative, analytical, problem solving, numerical, communication, modeling, and research.
Intellectual caliber: Creative, intelligent, innovative, logical, genuine interest in the financial markets.
Values: Ethical, honest, hard-working, trustworthy, dedicated, team oriented.
Temperament: Confident, committed, detail oriented and goal oriented.
