Utility Systems Technician – Water Distribution Jobs

This is a great entry level opportunity with the City of Lebanon.

This seasonal position will not exceed 6 months.

Driver's License - Valid Tennessee Driver's License and clear driving record is required

Sufficient experience and mechanical and plumbing skills and aptitude to work independently and without assistance.

Employees in this classification must have a comprehensive working knowledge of the general principles of water storage, production and distribution.

When conducting university business, must comply with the California Vehicle Code and Stanford University driving requirements.

Interpersonal Skills: Demonstrates the ability to work well with Stanford colleagues and clients and with external organizations.

Operate, maintain and repair well pumps and machinery. • Program, maintain and repair water meters.

Calculate and accomplish proper dosage of chlorine for purposes of water sanitation, purification, and treatment in accordance with state law.

Meet with landowners to explain vegetation management work.

Assist in the management of contractors during storm restoration operations.

Must have exceptional written and verbal communication skills, strong problem-solving capabilities, the ability to multi-task, and attention to detail

Respond to contractor questions concerning work specification and requirements.

Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in Forestry, Environmental Science, or related field experience preferred

Experience in Forestry, Arboriculture, or Horticulture a plus, not required

Fulfill role of WMS knowledge expert for warehouse management system from requirements gathering/analysis through daily operations

Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain Management (SCM), Warehousing, Logistics, Business or related field preferred.

A combination of education, training and experience that results in demonstrated competency to perform the work may be substituted.

Provide guidance, and training/knowledge transfer to a team ensuring stability of the DC during and after initial deployment.

Participate in on-site implementation and customer interaction to ensure delivery of business requirements.

Document any new applicable functional requirements as necessary for enhancements to core products to meet scope of proposed solution.

Up to 1 year of experience in a public sector water system or other mechanical or manufacturing equipment maintenance.

Must possess ADEQ Grade I Water Distribution Certification within one year of hire

On-Call Rotation is a Requirement of this position

1 year of experience in Private or Public Sector Water Distribution System to include related equipment maintenance, installation and repair

Must Possess ADEQ Grade I Water Distribution Certification at the time of hire or promotion

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Knowledge of and understanding lockout and tag out procedures and requirements according to OSHA standards.

Ability to lead by example and sharing of knowledge/skill.

Ability to adhere to all safety requirements established for the Water Treatment Plant.

Advanced knowledge of 120v circuits and below to perform inspections in compliance with the national electrical code.

Knowledge of instrumentation and analyzers that measure process parameters.

Education and/or Training; License, Certificate and/or Other Requirements:

Perform customer service, journey level operations, skilled installation, repair and maintenance activities of potable and recycled water distribution systems.

Operational characteristics, services and activities of potable water distribution and recycled water distribution systems.

Water distribution operations, maintenance, services, procedures, methods, practices, diagnostic inspection, equipment installation, repair and materials.

Basic principles and procedures of record keeping.

Tools, equipment, and procedures used to overhaul, repair, and adjust potable and recycled water distribution system equipment.

Interpret and analyze statistical data and develop reports for management.

Associates Degree OR the equivalent combination of directly related education and business office experience.

Customer service policies and procedures.

Computers and PC related software (word processing, spreadsheets, database, etc.).

Conflict resolution, negotiations and problem solving.

Communicate, both orally and in writing, and work effectively with customers, employees and outside agencies.

Education, training and Experience Guidelines

Ensures that proper procedures and record keeping are followed for all location requests; downloads all GPS data consistent with organization requirements.

Uses hand tools such as shovels picks, and lid pullers to open vaults, valve boxes and sewer manholes.

Checks and maintains equipment, vehicles and tools for proper operation and clean and performs maintenance on equipment.

Assists with GPS of electric system so an accurate database can be maintained.

Provides assistance with the city fiber optic network including installation, trouble shooting and maintenance.

A combination of experience in pipeline inspection, industrial construction, and pipeline construction of at least three (3) years• API 1169 Certification

Perform Pipe-to-Soil reads in accordance with Standards use Digital Multi Meter (DMM) and Copper-Copper Sulfate Portable Reference Electrodes to actualize readings.

Exercise Stop Work Authority if unsafe work conditions exist

Required to perform inspection of all contractor’s duties

General knowledge of the operations, policies and procedures of the Business Services and Water Distribution Divisions of the Kenosha Water Utility.

Some knowledge of the construction, installation and operation of water meters and outside registers.

Some knowledge of the water meter reading process.

Considerable knowledge of methods, practices, materials and tools used in pipe, main, service and meter installation and repair.

Knowledge of water distribution system including mains, hydrants and meters.

Skill in the use of tools used in all phases of work.

Cuts, fits, lays, repairs, taps, cleans and flushes water mains and services.

Supervises and assists crews engaged in making pavement cuts, digging out mains, cutting and laying mains and back-filling trenches.

Installs water meters and raises or lowers meter boxes.

Has a basic knowledge of electrical circuit and must be skilled in the reading and understanding of circuit maps
