Sports Turf and Landscape Manager

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of insecticides and other pesticides and their toxicity;

Knowledge of turf-based pests and their control;

Knowledge of current regulations, standards and safety procedures.

Certified Fertilizer Applicator Certification (Turf) (Required within 6 months)

Inspects turf for signs of insects, weeds or disease;

Attend all educational functions (seminars, meetings, etc.) offered by Wesco / Toro.

Interface with Field Service Advisors/Mobile Service Techs and Service Manager on technical issues and problems within their area of responsibility

Remain aware of major competition in the marketplace and be prepared to report and offer input on competitive products/training and programming.

Follow up and return Sales Manager calls and emails as high priority.

Must have excellent customer service skills

Minimum level of education is high school

Pesticide license in turf/ornamental landscaping; Turf 3L Pesticide license; Knowledge of IPM (Integrated Pest Management)

Assist with the management of inventory of grounds materials.

Assist in hiring all game day/part time staff and manage all grounds staff for our business.

Work closely with sales to ensure all field related events are properly managed and to meet customer needs.

Create and manage and inspect all Departmental and OSHA safety guidelines and regulations.

Develop and maintain working relationships with managers, coaches, umpires, etc.

Monitors competitive activity/products and timely communicates to management, accordingly

Has a retail-selling emphasis (understands task-oriented questions to ask, validates customer requirements, proposes solution, offers demonstration and moves to close)

Maintains all customer information for sales management

Monitors trends in customer’s business activities and timely communicates to management

Maintains current knowledge of financing options to assist customers with securing the purchase of new and used goods

May maintain current knowledge of used equipment values and ability to evaluate properly for trading purposes

Previous experience in proper turf care and identification of turf pests and diseases

Excellent communication skills and organizational skills

Valid State Driver’s License with two years driving experience.

Remove unwanted plants by manual, mechanical, or chemical means inside and adjacent to property lawns.

Identify and control diseased turf to maintain a high level of health and visual appeal with the lawns.

Repair damaged areas of lawn incurred by wildlife or Resort activity.

The primary purpose of the position is to provide turf management services for Grounds Management.

This position is required to apply sound horticultural practices and integrated pest management procedures on campus areas.

Experience with landscaping and grounds maintenance.

Three to five years experience in grounds maintenance or arboriculture experience.

Knowledge of plant care and light equipment repair and maintenance.

A high level of applicable horticultural care and maintenance with some irrigation knowledge.

Minimum of 4 years of proven Turfgrass Management at the major league level. MLS/NWSL experience preferred.

High school diploma required, AS or BS Turfgrass management degree preferred. SFMA CSFM certification preferred.

Skills, Abilities & Other Attributes

Provide positive leadership to all crew members and continue to grow in knowledge in the position.

Operate typical turfgrass maintenance machinery, tractors, aerators, mowers, vacuums, sprayers, hand tools, and others.

Keep records of field maintenance, testing, and applications. Obtain TDA Pesticide license within 3 months of hire.

Maintains current product knowledge on features and benefits of all equipment potentially saleable by the dealership.

Monitors competitive activity/products and timely communicates to management.

Maintains all customer information in assigned territory for sales management.

Monitors trends in customer’s business activities and timely communicates to management.

Maintain current knowledge of used equipment values and ability to evaluate properly.

1+ years’ experience in the golf & sports turf industry preferred

5+ years management experience with Projects and Staff management

Experience in department and project budget development, implementation, and management

5+ years management experience in cold weather climate turf management

Project and/or Property Management experience

Snow removal operations and management experience

Monitoring the management of playing field hydronic soil heat systems and SubAir system

A Bachelor's degree in Turf Management or a related field may offset two years of required experience.

OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Manage, plan and coordinate all maintenance required for university athletic facilities.

Manage personnel functions including, but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisals, promotions, transfers and vacation schedules.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Know and understand all rules and regulations pertaining to the field of play and surrounding areas.
