Sports Turf and Landscape Manager
The function and purpose is to maintain the appearance of University Recreation outdoor facilities which consists of approximately 30 acres of practice/competition turf and 2.5 acres of landscaped manicured beds. They also oversee a large inventory of specialized equipment that is vital to the care and maintenance of the landscaping. This position reports to the Assistant Director of Facility Services.
Responsibilities:
20% - Administrative Support:
Administration of compliance efforts which include: State, University and Departmental policies and procedures relative to the safe and efficient operation of facilities, equipment, and personnel management and department procedures necessary for appropriate, safe, and orderly use of all outdoor. Provide supervision as well as leadership and development opportunities for one staff member and student employees. Provide on-site preparation for all outdoor special events in collaboration with Assistant Director, Facility Operations.
60% - Quality Control:
Responsible for the day-to-day operation of sports turf maintenance, ancillary turf, and adjacent flower beds to include but are not limited to: Turf mowing, preparing practice/competition turf fields (to include marking), string trimming, edging, hard surface/turf blowing, and/or vacuuming, general cleanup/litter removal, minor pruning, and weed removal, drain cleaning, herbicide application to weeds, irrigation work for planted beds/turf areas, replacement/repair of turf area topdressing, aerating, over seeding, verti-cutting, dragging, and watering.
Oversee the preventive maintenance and inventory of all assigned equipment to include all department vehicles, tractors, blowers, trimmers, and tools. Take necessary action to identify and follow through with equipment repairs.
10% - Departmental Support:
Responsible for the oversight of the Turf Maintenance budget which includes preparing and procuring the information necessary for supplies/equipment. Utilize appropriate evaluation procedures for measuring the effectiveness of various operational procedures and policies. Prepare monthly and yearly statistical analysis of outdoor facility needs and improvements.
10% - Other Duties as Assigned:
Other duties as assigned by UREC leadership or Assistant Director of Facility Services. This includes but not limited to efforts that support broad division/institution efforts including at least 40 hours per year spent helping divisional initiatives such as Move-In Day, Welcome Week, Family Weekend, Career Expo, Disability Services Finals Testing, other special projects, etc.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a related field with 3 years of experience working within the turf management industry.
Minimum Certifications/Licenses:
Valid Driver's License
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Turf Management or related field with 5 years of experience working within the turf management industry.
Special Requirements/Expectations:
Ability and willingness to occasionally work evening and weekend hours.
Due to the position's physical requirements, a pre-employment physical examination will be required per FASOP: HR-04.
Due to the nature of the position and/or responsibilities, this position shall be subject to drug/alcohol testing in accordance with University Police Statement 67.
