Search for, collect, and preserve evidence at crime scenes for laboratory analysis; photograph crime scenes, collisions, suspects, and evidence collected.

Develop and preserve latent fingerprints using various techniques; identify and compare fingerprints.

Collect, preserve, and attempt to evaluate or identify evidence such as blood, hair, fibers, cloth, wood, paint, and glass fragments.

Take and compare physical impressions to attempt to connect evidence with suspect.

Interview witnesses as to location of evidence and for details in order to create composite drawings of suspects.

Incumbent must have valid driver's license.

Typical qualifying experience would be

Providing primary medical, dental, alcohol, drug and mental health services to residents, including the uninsured, low-income, and medically underserved

Providing law enforcement services in the unincorporated area of the county

Protecting the community from public health threats such as communicable diseases

Coordinating countywide responses to domestic violence and terrorism or other emergencies

Managing the criminal justice process after arrest (jail, prosecution, probation)

In a training capacity, assist in searching for, collecting, and categorizing evidence at crime scenes for laboratory analysis.

Assist in collecting, identifying, developing, and preserving latent fingerprints.

Preserve, compare, and attempt to identify evidence such as blood, hair, fibers, cloth, wood, paint, and glass fragments.

Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of related laboratory instrumentation, computer software, calibration, validation, quality control, safety, accreditation, proficiency testing, and training.

Knowledge of international forensic laboratory accreditation standards.

Complete discipline specific training program.

Clean and sterilize laboratory utensils, equipment, and facilities.

Participate in quality assurance/quality control measures.

Knowledge of medical and biological terminology.

Knowledge of weighing and measuring.

Six months experience in record keeping.

Six months experience in applying laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures.

Ensures all biohazard wastes are collected, stored and disposed of accordingly and maintains proper storage of reagents for safe handling.

Maintains pathology inventory and orders supplies for all autopsy and inspection related tools and equipment.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Experience in preservation and collection of physical, biological and trace evidence.

Experience in the development, collection and preservation of latent prints for case file and/or law enforcement.

Experience in operating digital imaging equipment, techniques and related software.

Special Certifications and Licenses Required

Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
