This is specialized technical work gathering evidence at crime scenes.
Positions allocated to this classification report to a designated supervisor and work under limited supervision. Work in this class is distinguished from higher classes by its lack of supervisory responsibility and from lower classes by its emphasis on the collection of a variety of types of crime scene evidence.

NATURE OF WORK
This is specialized technical work gathering evidence at crime scenes.

Work in this class is distinguished from higher classes by its lack of supervisory responsibility and from lower classes by its emphasis on the collection of a variety of types of crime scene evidence.
EXAMPLES OF WORK
Essential Job Functions
Detects, collects, preserves, packages, and transports evidence.
Processes for latent fingerprints.
Performs forensic photography and produces crime scene drawings.
Prepares comprehensive written reports.
Testifies as an expert witness in court.
Attends work on a continuous and regular basis,
Non-essential Job Functions
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited two (2) year college or equivalent coursework and completion of specialized training related to forensic science and criminal investigations, and one (1) year experience in crime scene processing, forensic work, or related field, or an equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, ability, and skills.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATES
Must possess a valid Florida Driver License.
NOTES
May be required to work outside business hours.
Duties involve strenuous physical activity under severe working conditions.
SELECTION FACTORS
Knowledge of practices and methods of crime scene processing.
Ability to operate a motor vehicle.
Ability to operate hand and power tools.
Ability to operate laboratory and camera equipment.
Ability to achieve and maintain status of court expert on matters related to the collection of crime scene evidence.
Ability to keep records and prepare reports.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Ability to work effectively with co-workers and the general public.
