Overview A Chronic Patient Care Technician (CPCT) is a healthcare professional who provides direct patient care to individuals with chronic illnesses. CPCTs work in a variety of settings, including hospitals, clinics, long-term care facilities, and home health agencies. They are responsible for providing direct patient care, monitoring vital signs, administering medications, and providing emotional support to patients and their families. Detailed Job Description The primary responsibility of a Chronic Patient Care Technician is to provide direct patient care to individuals with chronic illnesses. This includes monitoring vital signs, administering medications, and providing emotional support to patients and their families. CPCTs may also be responsible for assisting with medical procedures, such as wound care, catheterizations, and blood draws. In addition, they may provide education to patients and their families on disease management and lifestyle modifications. Job Skills Required• Knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy
• Ability to assess patient needs and provide appropriate care
• Ability to communicate effectively with patients and their families
• Ability to work independently and as part of a healthcare team
• Ability to maintain patient confidentiality
• Knowledge of infection control procedures
• Knowledge of medical equipment and supplies
Job Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Certification as a Chronic Patient Care Technician (CPCT)
• Completion of a CPCT training program
• Current CPR certification
• Current state license, if applicable
Job Knowledge
• Knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy
• Knowledge of infection control procedures
• Knowledge of medical equipment and supplies
• Knowledge of disease management and lifestyle modifications
Job Experience
• Previous experience in a healthcare setting
• Previous experience working with chronic illnesses
