Behavior Support Specialist Jobs

TB Test within the last 60 days (Education Code 49406, Assembly Bill 1667)

Upon Conditional Offer of Employment:

High School Diploma or equivalent; Courses in psychology, sociology, recreation, or related fields are preferable, but not required.

Willingness to complete such training and use non-violent behavior intervention, emergency interventions and physical restraint techniques.

Must complete Pro-Act Training within 6 months of hire.

DOJ and FBI Criminal Background Check

Assists school administrators, social workers, teaching personnel with screening, identification, management, and treatment of behavioral health.

Maintains working knowledge of and collaborates with district and community agencies and resources.

Has excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

Five years teaching experience or providing related behavioral services.

Experience with working with students with special needs.

Three years of successful experience working with students with behavioral regulation needs.

Implements culturally competent practices and culturally responsive schoolwide and classroom management strategies to provide equity and access for all students.

Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to exercise good judgment and work effectively in a dynamic environment.

Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of all district policies and procedures.

Attends in-service trainings, staff meetings and other meetings as assigned. Attends professional growth activities related to job responsibilities.

Fosters a culture of learning, cultural responsiveness, and high expectations for every student and every adult.

Collaboratively assists and trains staff to deliver behavioral and social/emotional supports and curriculum to support students’ access to the academic curriculum.

Preferred Education BA/BS Degree; Continued education in child development or social services field preferred.

Prepare, maintain, and preset required report, records, and documentation.

Improve access of children with social emotional concerns and/or disabilities to needed resources within the community.

Job Qualifications/Requirements (please review job description for qualifications and duties of the position):

This position offers an excellent benefit package including:

Two (2) years of experience working with at-risk students.

Knowledge of basic reading, writing, and math appropriate for age level of students required in English.

At least 48 hours of college credit, or associate’s degree, in a social service field of study.

Must be able to be trained to implement Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) within six (6) months of employment.

Experience as a team member in development, implementation and evaluation of behavior management plans.

Conduct observations of students for development of behavior management and behavior modification plans.

Provide in-service training for teachers and staff in working with children and adolescents on behavior management.

Participate in the design, implementation and evaluation of crisis management plans.

Demonstrated success in development, implementation and evaluation of individual and group behavior management and modification plans.

Valid Special Education licensure and/or certification as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA)

Follow the FTC Kids Way behavioral skill acquisition protocols.

Assist Behavior Analysts and Therapeutic Behavior Support Staff with behavior assessments and skills acquisition.

Acquire and maintain technical knowledge by attending required training.

Minimum of 2 years experience in childcare or pediatrics in school/community/afterschool programs

Minimum Bachelor’s Degree preferred in Education, Psychology, or Social Work

Training and experience in the field of Applied Behavior Analysis

Two or more years’ experience working with students with behavioral challenges

Trained in or willing to be trained in non-violent crisis interventions

Able to maintain records regarding student behaviors

Able to transition/train adult support for identified students

Ability to apply knowledge of current education and instructional theories, methodologies, techniques, and principles.
