Job Description
  • Assists in the training of staff to implement behavior modification techniques and serves as a resource to teachers on best practices in classroom management and student interventions.
  • Observes ergonomics of sedentary office work including placement of computers and monitors,
  • Serves on building and district committees and councils as assigned.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Works well with others from diverse backgrounds. Focuses on solving conflict, maintaining confidentiality, listening to others, keeping emotions under control, remaining open to others’ ideas and contributing to building a positive team spirit. Demonstrates the ability to remain calm and professional in an environment with frequent interruptions. Interacts with staff and students appropriately.
  • Coordinates with District staff to develop systems and procedures for working with and assisting students with challenging behaviors to include: Collaborative Problem Solving, ACE’s and Applied Behavior Analysis techniques.
  • Facilitates and coaches teams through the development and implementation of Functional Behavior Plans/Behavior Support Plans for identified students. Helps classroom teachers design plans that address classroom organization, effective instruction, social emotional learning, skills’ instruction and ethical issues.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Supports teachers in gathering and analyzing information to develop individualized behavior support plans and interventions with the school team.
  • Attends in-service trainings, staff meetings and other meetings as assigned. Attends professional growth activities related to job responsibilities.
  • Consistently follows all applicable federal and state laws and all district policies, rules and supervisor directions.
  • Promotes positive relationships with outside services and student/home environment when developing programs/plans.
  • And sitting alignment.
  • Plans and delivers support and professional development that incorporates input and feedback to maximize effectiveness.
  • Works cooperatively with building administrators, school counselor and the school team to promote positive student behavior by supporting teachers in their implementation of positive behaviors supports in their classrooms.
  • Maintains effective working relationships with other members of the Department as well as other school personnel and community members, including those from diverse cultures or backgrounds or those who speak limited or no English.

  • Observes proper lifting techniques and other strategies to avoid accidents and personal injury
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to calculate rates, ratios, percentages and proportions. Ability to read and interpret various charts, bar graphs and similar visual data depictions.
  • Collaborates with school teams to identify students in need of Tiers 2 behavioral interventions, assisting in the planning of those interventions and providing support for teachers in implementing interventions.
  • Conducts oneself in the best interest of students, in accordance with the highest traditions of public education and in support of the District’s mission.
  • Maintains consistent, daily and punctual attendance.
  • Supports and trains staff in defining and measuring behavior, understanding principles of reinforcement, teaching new behavior, implementing universal Tier 1 strategies for improving positive behavior and identifying antecedents.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of all district policies and procedures.
  • Collects and analyzes data from multiple sources to determine impact and effectiveness.
  • Communicates information about district, school and/or departmental policies and procedures
  • Supervises students on school grounds, on field trips and at various school functions.
  • Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to exercise good judgment and work effectively in a dynamic environment.
  • Fosters a culture of learning, cultural responsiveness, and high expectations for every student and every adult.
  • Computer Skills: Ability to effectively use office computers and internet access for email, research, word processing, database manipulation, visual presentations and general web-based applications.
  • Moves classroom furniture and organizes classroom to enhance student learning.
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: A valid Oregon Driver’s License is required. Must have or able to obtain various certificates, licenses and/or registrations as required by federal, state or local law(s) and/or determined by the district.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in oral, schedule or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving more than one variable.
  • Operates various office equipment including audio visual equipment/devices, telephones and photocopy machines.
  • Language Skills: Ability to communicate in English fluently both verbally and in writing, including proficiency in spelling and grammar. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from students, parents, staff, regulatory agencies, vendors and members of the community. Ability to read and interpret documents including governmental regulations, safety rules and operating and maintenance instructions/ instruction manuals. Ability to prepare routine reports and correspondence with high degrees of accuracy and professionalism.

  • While performing job duties.
  • Abides by the Standards for Competent and Ethical Performance of Oregon Educators as articulated by the Teacher Standards and Practices Commission under OAR 584 Division 20.
  • Reports issues to the principal and the appropriate authorities including safety, sanitary and fire hazards, vandalism, thefts and errant wildlife.
  • Education and/or Experience: A Bachelor’s degree is required, a Master’s degree in Special Education is preferred. A valid Oregon teacher license with necessary endorsements is required. Three (3) years of successful behavior management experience with special needs students, is preferred. Demonstrated knowledge of child and adolescent growth and development is required. Must currently hold a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), or be willing and able to obtain a BCBA within three (3) years of hire date.
  • Provides staff development activities for staff during in-service meetings.
  • Collaboratively assists and trains staff to deliver behavioral and social/emotional supports and curriculum to support students’ access to the academic curriculum.
  • Reviews, analyzes and uses behavioral referral and school-wide data reports on a regular basis.
