Workshop Leader (K-8 Education)

Leading Like a Lady is a nonprofit organization with a mission to provide affirming advice and a platform for women of the African diaspora feeling insecure about their status in life. We do this by producing educational documentaries, books, online media, and digital services.

The organization is looking for a workshop leader based in New York City (e.g. within the five boroughs) who can deliver basic training for schools using our curriculum to teach professional writing to aspiring authors and journalists in grades 6-8.

The Workshop Leader will provide staff professional development services for school leaders and educators based at an assigned NYC public school we serve. Workshop training services include but may not be limited to:

• Verbal or digital illustrations of using the curriculum for English Language Learners (ELLs).
• A minimum of 6 hours of in-person or remote training workshops designed to explain the purpose behind the use and design of our curriculum;
• Step-by-step simulation of how to implement the curriculum in middle school, high school, or college classrooms for English Language and Literature instruction;

This is a non-exempt role. The Workshop Leader will be hired as an independent contractor.

The ideal candidate is:

• A graduate with a bachelor’s degree (minimum) in English, Communications, Media Studies, K-8 Education, and/or Developmental Psychology (a master’s degree is considered a plus)a
• An excellent communicator who isn’t afraid of public speaking (please highlight any experience you have in this regard)
• Living in one of the five boroughs of New York City, and is willing to travel wherever necessary to host workshops
• A self-starter who can work independently and is team-oriented
• Former teacher with classroom instruction experience, or a private tutor with a stellar record of working with individual clients or an agency (professional references will be requested)
