Water Meter Serviceworker-Part-Time 7:30Am-4:30Pm (32 Hours/Week)

Position Summary

Conducts field investigations, disconnects and connects water meters and verifies and maps new service installations. Receives work assignments from the Meter Reader Coordinator and communicates with customers regarding the status of their meter(s) and of their water usage.

Essential Job Functions

Essential functions are the basic job duties that an employee must be able to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation. • Uses iPad, hand-held tools and metering technology
• Verifies and maps the location of new service installation of water meters to incorporate into assigned meter reading routes
• Explains department billing procedures and requirements for starting and terminating service to utility customers
• Ensures compliance with safety regulations and standard operating procedures
• Inspects meter installation; cleans meter boxes, reports leaks, defective meters, or damaged meter boxes, and any other necessary repairs
• Conducts field investigations to answer questions and/or concerns and verify reads
• Receives work orders; connects and disconnects meters; verifies meter readings, meter numbers, and house numbers before initiating or discontinuing service
• Coordinates with other service workers to complete connections, disconnections, and meter investigations
• Performs related work as required
• Enters data into meter management programs and Asset Management Systems

Job Requirements & Work Environment

High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalencyOne (1) to three (3) years of related experience.

Special Requirements

Non-Essential Employees will not be required to work during a declared emergency but may be required to work in some capacity after the declared emergency. The employee’s Department Head will determine when the employee will be required to work.

Applicants must attain a minimum score of 70 in each part of the examination in order to qualify. All successful applicants will be required to pass a medical examination, including drug screening, prior to appointment.

An eligible veteran who enters an open-competitive examination shall receive preference points added to the total passing score earned in the examination as provided for in the Florida Statutes.
