Who we are looking for:

The Wunderman Thompson Performance Marketing Group is seeking a VP of Strategy. This person will be responsible for the health of the strategy department – inspiring the team to deliver quality work to our existing clients and support growth through incremental and new business opportunities. This role requires a proven leader with a track record of translating consumer, competitive and industry insights into simple, thoughtful product solutions that solve business problems and deliver inspiring experiences. They will work in tight partnership with media, content, creative, analytics, and account to deliver and inspire best-in-class thinking and work with a measurable business impact. This role reports to the Head of Marketing Services in Wunderman Thompson Performance Marketing.


What you'll do:

Team (25%)

  • Establish department vision/goals and track progress towards accomplishments
  • Manage resource planning effectively against scoped revenue and staff costs
  • Develop and establish best practices, processes and ways of working within the team
  • Create a strong team culture that is grounded in WT Behaviors (In-It-Together, Positivity, Listening, Positivity) and is people-first focused
  • Grow and develop team members by providing regular, actionable and motivating feedback which supports strengths and identifies areas for improvement
  • Oversee department hiring, onboarding, client assignments, and resource change management

Service Line (25%)

· Define the role of strategy as a function both internally and as a service to clients

  • Provide thought leadership to the agency and clients that will help to educate and inspire innovation
  • Conduct brainstorms, workshops and ideation sessions that drive greater creativity and innovation
  • Provide department support for strategy in new business pitches
  • Inspire a mindset of pushing the work, elevating the ambition of a brand, and leading the client’s thinking about the potential of their business
  • Define standards in strategy deliverables and coordinate review parameters to ensure quality across those deliverables for each of our clients

Client (50%)

  • Monitor the client’s business success (KPIs), industry, competition and market factors to influence the go-to-market approach
  • Partner with holistic omni-channel team to oversee the translation of our client's objectives and plan a roadmap across all media channels, (paid, owned and earned) that will achieve client goals
  • Develop hypothesis and introduce tests – rooted in data
  • Conduct audience target/profiling analysis and perform competitive assessments
  • Conduct research – primary and secondary – to inform strategy
  • Be at the forefront of performance marketing, and present new opportunities to help our clients achieve their objectives
  • Present directly to clients, gaining trust by telling a concise and compelling story around strategy and approach
  • Act as strategy lead on key client accounts and/or support team members on accounts in a billable capacity
  • Oversee internal project briefings, media plan and creative reviews on high-profile client projects to champion the strategic viewpoint and ensure that work is aligned to agreed upon strategy
  • Keep a clear understanding of the prospect and customer – their needs, and motivations – to influence media, channel and experience


What you'll need:

  • Expert understanding of strategy experience in an advertising, digital and media agency.
  • Experience understanding the intersection of business strategy, consumer insights and digital behavior in grounding ideas
  • Ability to be “hands-on” when needed, especially regarding problem-solving and generating business solution options.
  • Powerful communication and presentation skills. Technically and creatively proficient in presentation planning and development
  • Minimum ten years of experience in strategic planning, ideally in a creative, digital or media agency or consultancy
  • Minimum five years of management experience
  • Expert presentation skills to senior leadership and the most senior level of clients and can tell an inspiring, compelling story.
