Job Description

About This Role:

A well-funded start-up we work with is looking for a VP of Engineering who is passionate about building disruptive tech from the ground up, with the chance to architect the next revolution in web3/gaming/ad tech and a team from zero to scale. If you want to influence culture, develop technical strategy, build out an MVP, hire a founding technical team, and develop processes and systems to support an exciting journey – then this might be for you


This exciting opportunity will allow you to work with cutting-edge blockchain technology, gaming, advertising, and NFTs all while being part of a fast-paced, hardworking, and ambitious team.


The ideal candidate will have 10+ years of professional experience, including a high-growth startup environment, and 3+ years of people management experience.


What You’ll Do:

  • Represent the company as a key member of the leadership team with employees, customers and investors
  • Manage strategic vendor and technology partner relationships
  • Provide team members with guidance, mentorship, and a path for growth within the technology organization
  • Act as technical lead to stand-up the MVP offering with a mix of hands-on expertise, contract resources, and off-the-shelf software with an eye to future evolution to more scalable solutions
  • Keep a pulse on industry trendsto inform the company’s development stack and related technologies so that engineering stays current and competitive
  • Design, grow and lead a team of developers and engineers, establishing and maintaining standards and regimens that will scale from $0 to $1M and $1M to $5M and beyond
  • Work with the leadership team to set clear priorities and goals for engineering management and production, balancing the long-term and immediate needs


What You’ll Need:

We are looking for a leader who can code - you will be held to the same technical standards as our senior engineering candidates in this interview process.


  • 8+ years in hands-on technical and engineering roles and broad knowledge of modern software engineering: languages, frameworks, techniques, and industry trends (DevOps, APIs, AI, etc)
  • Strong track record of managing, mentoring, and inspiring a small team of engineers providing architectural guidance, code reviews, project management, etc.
  • Experience building or working at a start-up or scale-up company that has grown at a rapid scale. You prefer the startup life of challenges, uncertainty, invention, chaos, impact, responsibility, and autonomy.
  • You reliably accomplish impressive amounts of progress on what really matters, whether it's problem solving, implementing, educating, evaluating new team members, etc.
  • 3+ years in a Management/Executive role with experience overseeing engineering, design, and product delivery and teams that are eager to follow them
  • Experience developing, managing and growing a geographically dispersed engineering team
  • You are kind, conscientious, thoughtful, and communicative.
  • Comfort and experience working in an iterative environment to test first-version prototypes
  • Hands on technical and product experience preferred in Crypto, Blockchain, Ad Tech, and/or Web3 ecosystem
  • You've honed your ability to self-manage, so that when you take on relatively abstract projects you turn them into concrete, sensible plans and bring them to completion.
