Job Description
The Director, Quality Engineering will lead and champion a culture of quality. This leader will build out a team of software tester engineers and automation engineers to ensure platforms and systems set a precedent for stability, security and quality. The role reports directly to the VP of Enterprise Technology Solutions and is empowered to establish and implement software quality Engineering practices, procedures and automation to enable our software to meet our standards in order to be released. This role requires a strong servant leader who is known for setting a standard for excellence throughout an organization. They understand "quality" includes performance, scalability, maintainability, reliability, usability and security. They are excited about building a virtual team comprising of team members from around the world and is skilled at creating a virtual community of product managers, engineers, testers and developers. Frequent independent judgments are essential. The incumbent is also required to perform all tasks in observance of Rite Aid’s brand and strategy and adhere to our core values and service attributes.


  • 3 years of experience in project management or supervisory experience.
  • Build a highly automated Quality Engineering function to support all major applications at Rite Aid.
  • Create a culture of continual improvement in the software development processes throughout the company.
  • Salary Range: $142,200-$210,675
  • Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor, measure, and report on software quality and delivery performance. Utilize KPI performance to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Provide direct oversight, leadership and motivation for enterprise Quality Engineering team. Develops and mentors staff to build a culture of excellence in the QE team, as well as managing QE performance delivered by outsourced, off-shore partners.
  • Responsible for the test environments including coordinating all activity within those environments, user permissions, code versions, and data.
  • Collaborate with the application development leadership team to define the internal quality maturity capabilities & standards that will be used to assess the continual improvement of the software development processes.
  • Define and drive the strategic roadmap for the Quality Engineering function to ensure the highest standards of performance from technology solutions.
  • Identify opportunities for innovation, reduced complexity, and proactive reduction of technical debt in the software development processes.
  • 7 years of experience in Software Development and/or Software Testing experience required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Arts/Sciences (BA/BS) Computer Science, Engineering, or other technical disciplines required.
  • Work closely with the Rite Aid business groups, engineering organizations, software development teams, and operations teams to continually evaluate and improve the end-to-end software development processes, tools, and testing methods used in the company.
  • Lead cross-functional teams to define the software quality standards and metrics that will be used to evaluate the software development processes.
  • Provide staff training as necessary to ensure adoption and effective use of the new ways of working.
  • Identify, recommend, and implement automated testing improvements throughout the entire software development lifecycle to increase the speed, reliability, and manageability of the testing processes.
  • Develop and maintain a standard software release scorecard to measure the progress toward software quality goals and objectives.
