Our destinations include Alaska, Columbia & Snake Rivers, Costa Rica & Panama, Belize, Galapagos, Hawaiian Islands, Mexico’s Sea of Cortes, and the Pacific Northwest.


Position Summary


UnCruise Adventures is seeking an experienced, dynamic and hands on marketing and sales leader who possesses exemplary independent decision-making, is a strong communicator, and highly organized. The Vice President of Marketing and Sales position demands detailed, back of the house knowledge of online, social, and print marketing, along with an understanding of sales channels and processes.


This position ensures the ongoing development and strengthening of relationships with various travel industry partners who have proven histories in marketing and selling adventure, expedition, and small ship travel. This position oversees efforts to increase sales via direct marketing to clients, wholesalers, and retail travel advisors. Short- and long-term partnership evaluations are a key part of this area of responsibility.


Coaching staff to fulfill marketing and sales plans, which are anchored and executed through current and evolving initiatives, is key to success. Monitoring the relevancy and effectiveness of marketing and sales programs through reports, metrics and open dialogue must be initiated regularly with adjustments as needed. Candidates for this position must show exceptional and multi-dimensional skills in marketing and sales planning and follow-through. This includes managing multiple accounts and disciplines, staff coaching, guidance, mentoring, and balancing key priorities, which includes having fun.


Essential Duties


  • Assure long-term strategies and directives, in sales and marketing, are built out and followed.
  • Attend and support leaders in weekly marketing and sales staff meetings.
  • Oversee annual Marketing and Sales budget creation, monitoring, and adjustments.
  • Establish sales goals for all destinations, monitor results and proactively plan, recommend, and implement corrective measures to assure goals are met, this via appropriate initiatives.
  • Closely monitor weekly Sales and Sales Prediction Reports to ensure goals are being met and that sales are on pace for success.
  • Responsible for vessel yield management. This is done by constantly watching load factors to initiate marketing and sales activity to spur tactical sales, consolidate ship departures or recommend outright cancellation.
  • Assure that marketing and sales objectives are coordinated and at optimum efficiency to create the required sales goals.
  • Leadership by example. No duty is too small, nor too big. This position teaches by having detailed knowledge of marketing and sales duties, of the staff that are under their command.
  • Manage the overall UnCruise Adventures brand integrity, representation in the marketplace, and proper usage of all brand-related marketing materials created and distributed by the company or by industry partners.
  • Actively participate in executive meetings.
  • Directly supervise leaders that oversee marketing, sales, and business development. This is done with a mentality of coaching, clear direction, and mentorship.


General Responsibilities


  • Monitor outside sales consulting contracts, track results, and adjust as needed.
  • Collaborate and cross train with the outgoing Director of Sales (retiring April 2024) to learn and expand the UnCruise Adventures sales and marketing model.
  • Oversite of sales contingency plans as needed. Ensure strong relationships with travel trade partners and guests endure beyond contingencies, emergencies or other travel disruptions whether originating externally or internally. Step up to manage escalated service recovery situations.
  • Directly oversee International Accounts outside of North America. This includes existing relationships in Australia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom.
  • Use the company’s CEO to achieve marketing and sales goals via speaking engagements, videos, and other marketing and sales functions.
  • Follow-up intensely and at optimal intervals with key agents, wholesale partners, consortia’s consumers, and other constituents after shows, meetings and events to derive the utmost from the investment in travel expense, time, and resources. Manage and negotiate these relationships to work optimally for the company.
  • Working in tandem with IT department on further development and implementation of I-Travel system to keep in par with sales standards and strategies.
  • Design, implement and monitor an incentive-based program for top marketing and sales leaders, business development officers and front-line marketing and sales staff.
  • Assure monitoring of remote location workers is conducted on a timely and effective basis regularly. This is achieved via IT technology, work results and phone logs.
  • Use all resources at hand to become an expert on all aspects of UnCruise Adventures product, vessel particulars, destinations, and itinerary details.
  • Keep a close eye on the objective: high quality/high production relationships rather than scattered or marginal partnerships.
  • Other duties as required or assigned.


Qualifications

  • Proven ability to translate sales and marketing trends analysis into useful action steps.
  • Initiative-taking, collaborator that works well under pressure, has a good sense of humor, loves what they do.
  • Strong time management skills: ability to effectively prioritize; manage multiple projects, people, and accounts concurrently; and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Inspired ability to develop and implement creative sales presentations.
  • Ability to recognize and adapt to market or external fluctuations outside of one’s control.
  • Five or more years of experience in marketing and/or sales management. Preference may be given to candidates who have a background in the adventure or small ship sector of travel.
  • The ideal candidate has shot video, edited, and presented active videos and marketing resources in the same day. Thus, the hands-on outlook and mentality that we as a small business must possess.
  • Strong public speaking skills combined with lively and detailed presentations are vital elements of this position. The ability to verbally communicate with the UnCruise Adventures brand powerfully, concisely, confidently is a key qualification.
  • Preference for working knowledge of software such as Sales Force, Tidio, Canva, Doclink, and I Travel with required working knowledge in Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Superior written, verbal, and visual communication skills.


Physical Demands / Work Environment


  • Occasional work on board vessels locally or potentially in remote locations. May require climbing a gangway or ladder and navigating a vessel under construction.
  • Typical office environment. Position may require bending, climbing, reaching, repetitive motion, and lifting.


Schedule and Location


Flexibility is required to meet the demands of this executive level position and to participate in external events whereby days of the week and hours of the day fluctuate. This position will require weekend and odd work schedules periodically. Travel whereby overnighting away from your home base is required and estimated at about 20-25% of the year with peaks and valleys throughout. This position is based in-office at the Juneau, Alaska or Seattle, Washington headquarters.
