Job Description

BE PART OF OUR LEADERSHIP TEAM at Junior Achievement of Northern California, where we help young people from all backgrounds achieve financial literacy skills and develop confidence in their futures, breaking down racial and economic barriers to success.

Position: Vice President of Education

Reports to: President & CEO

Department: Programs

Location: Hybrid. Must reside in the SF Bay Area and available to work in our offices in San Jose or Walnut Creek.

FTE:This is a full-time (40 hours per week), exempt position.

Salary Range: $90-$120k commensurate with experience


About Junior Achievement of Northern California (JA NorCal)

Junior Achievement of Northern California is seeking a dynamic and experienced Vice President of Education to lead and oversee our educational programs and initiatives. Reporting directly to the President and CEO, the VP of Education will play a crucial role in advancing our mission by developing and implementing innovative educational strategies that engage students, educators, and volunteers.


We are one of over 100 Junior Achievement chapters in the U.S. and we are part of the global family of Junior Achievement Worldwide, giving incredible opportunity for long-term growth within our organization. Our mission is to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy and we partner with tons of cool companies to connect mentors with youth who have questions about their future. JA NorCal operates in the greater San Francisco Bay Area, supporting educators and students in 24 counties. JA NorCal connects students to relevant, hands-on learning experiences that teach young people to manage their money, plan for their economic future, run their own businesses, and develop readiness for careers or college.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Outreach and Partnership: Establish and maintain strong relationships with schools, school districts, educational organizations, and community partners to expand program reach, promote diversity, and ensure program quality.
  • Fundraising Support: Collaborate with the development team to support fundraising efforts, including grant writing, reporting, and donor cultivation related to educational programs, emphasizing diversity and inclusion initiatives.
  • Staff Management: Lead and mentor a team of education professionals, providing guidance, support, and professional development opportunities while fostering an inclusive and supportive work environment.
  • Volunteer Engagement: Develop strategies to recruit, train, and retain a diverse pool of volunteers, including corporate partners, to deliver JA programs effectively, embracing inclusivity and cultural sensitivity.
  • Educational Leadership: Provide strategic direction and inclusive leadership for all educational programs and initiatives, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and objectives.
  • Program Development: Lead the development, enhancement, and evaluation of JA Northern California's educational programs to ensure relevance, effectiveness, and impact.
  • Data Analysis and Reporting: Oversee data collection and analysis related to program outcomes, student impact, and program effectiveness, using data to inform program improvement and decision-making, with a focus on equity and representation.
  • Curriculum Design: Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to design and update curriculum materials that align with current educational standards, best practices, and foster diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the President and CEO, Board of Directors, and other key stakeholders to advance the mission and vision of JA Northern California, promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of our work.


Qualifications and Skills:

·A bachelor's degree in education, business, or a related field; master’s degree a plus.

·At least 7 years of progressive leadership experience in educational program management, in a nonprofit organization or an educational setting.

·Demonstrated knowledge of current educational trends, best practices, and standards

·Deep understanding of the needs of your local community, and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

·Experience working with school districts and knowledge navigating departments to present JA programs as a value-added partner that result in school districts program agreements.

·Strong leadership skills, with a proven ability to motivate and inspire diverse teams, fostering a culture of inclusivity and belonging.

·Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage and collaborate with various stakeholders, including students, educators, volunteers, board members, JA colleagues and community partners.

·Experience in curriculum development and program design, incorporating diverse perspectives and cultural relevance.

·Experience in volunteer management and engagement, valuing and leveraging the varied contributions of a large volunteer base.

·Strong project management skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple initiatives simultaneously, considering the needs of diverse communities.

·Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with an emphasis on clear, inclusive, and culturally sensitive communication.

·Proficiency in data analysis and reporting, with a commitment to collecting and utilizing data to address disparities and promote equitable outcomes.

·Passion for and commitment to Junior Achievement's mission and values, with a strong desire to create an inclusive and equitable educational environment.


Essential Qualities:

·Innate sense of drive and accountability, comfortable taking action and moving other partners to take action, including senior team members.

·Natural ability to establish trust, collaborative working relationships, and active partner engagement.

·Strong public speaking and motivational skills to be able to step into facilitator and presenter modes in joint meetings with multiple stakeholders.

·Bilingual in Spanish a plus
