Job Description

Two Bear Capital is a venture capital firm headquartered in Whitefish, Montana with offices in Boston, San Diego, and the San Francisco Bay area. With $275 million under management, Two Bear Capital focuses on early stage startup companies in the areas of biotechnology, bioinformatics, artificial intelligence/machine learning, enterprise software and cybersecurity. The firm has invested in companies solving difficult problems in everything from neurodegenerative disease to precision oncology, from advanced network architecture to data analytics.


We are seeking to grow our internal function with the addition of a best-in-class Vice President, Human Resource Operations and Strategy who is willing to roll up their sleeves, make a big impact and expand the current structure within the Two Bear Capital organization. This is an opportunity to develop new ideas and create the firm’s HR processes for future success.


Our offices are located in Whitefish, MT (HQ), Menlo Park, CA, Boston, MA and San Diego, CA. This role will require 25% travel for team offsite meetings and the preferred candidate location would be within a commutable distance to one of the above locations. This is a hybrid position requiring travel, onsite and remote working opportunities.



Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills that demonstrate a high level of professionalism
  • An entrepreneurial spirit with a willingness to pitch in with whatever needs to get done.
  • Strict confidentiality and discretion
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented and can manage multiple projects and dynamic priorities while meeting deadlines
  • 5-7 years of HR operations, preferably at a high-growth startup or venture capital company, with a strong background supporting best-in-class service
  • Committed to compliance with local, state, and federal employment laws and regulations and adheres to policies, guidelines and procedures pertaining to the protection of employee information
  • High emotional and social intelligence (e.g., strong customer service, seeking continuous improvement)
  • Passionate about customer service
  • Experience analyzing and presenting data
  • Driven, highly accountable and able to consistently deliver on goals and objectives
  • Experience with building/implementing HRIS systems, and handling complex compensation strategies


Responsibilities

  • Supervise the planning and execution of internal offsites and other team building initiatives.
  • Manage the employee life cycle process, including onboarding, offboarding, benefits, job and compensation changes, leaves of absence, I-9 record keeping, and management of 401(k) process.
  • Serve as a discrete and trusted resource to the General Partners on employment issues.
  • Serve as lead between people operations, IT, external vendors, and other stakeholders.
  • Develop internal HR processes that maximize positive team dynamics, individual motivation, and performance accountability.
  • Leverage technology to reimagine, improve, transform, and automate processes
  • Oversee management and audit of employee files for compliance, completeness, and accuracy
  • Ensure compliance with all federal and state employment laws. Maintains an awareness of the differences in employment laws between the states in which the firm has employees.
  • Manage the response and resolution of team inquiries in an efficient and timely manner.
