Job Description

Position Overview

Outset Medical is seeking a VP, Ethics & Compliance to oversee & manage our compliance program. Reporting to the General Counsel, the successful candidate will drive the development & implementation of policies & procedures that facilitate Outset Medical’s compliance with applicable laws; audit Company processes to assess their compliance with policies & procedures; develop & implement an effective training & communication program.


Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with other functional departments & direct reports to appropriate channels for investigation & resolution
  • Promote & support management of the Whistleblower Hotline & respond to alleged violations of rules, regulations, policies, procedures, & standards of conduct by evaluating, initiating, or recommending investigative procedures
  • Responsible for Compliance budget, strategic initiatives, & KPI’s.
  • Monitor laws & regulations to determine impacts on the Company’s ongoing compliance
  • Provide reports & metrics to senior leadership & Board of Directors (or committee thereof)
  • Oversee monitoring & auditing of company processes to assess compliance gaps & areas for improvement
  • Provide guidance & support to business partners relating to the interpretation of corporate policy & compliance matters
  • Partner with Outset business leaders to support strategic planning, business development, & goals to ensure compliance & risk management strategies are embedded
  • Conduct risk assessment activities to facilitate the identification of areas of potential vulnerability & risk & partner with the business leads to develop & implement corrective action plans to mitigate risk & enhance process compliance
  • Design & implement corporate policies & procedures related to healthcare & general compliance
  • Detect & prevent misconduct through investigations & reviews
  • Develop & manage effective training & communication in support of Outset’s ethics & compliance program
  • Oversee & direct the day-to-day operation of the corporate ethics & compliance program


Required Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of the healthcare business & regulatory environment at the US federal & state level: Anti-Kickback Statute, False Claims Act, Sunshine Act / state transparency reporting requirements, including relevant Office of Inspector General (OIG) Model Guidance & applicable Advisory Opinions, as well as knowledge of the FCPA, conflicts of interest, gifts & entertainment & similar issues
  • Experience building & managing high performing teams in a fast paced & dynamic environment
  • At least 15+ years’ of progressive experience in healthcare compliance
  • Bachelor’s Degree minimum, prefer Juris Doctor degree
  • Travel estimated up to 20%, as required
  • Sense of humor & can-do-it-attitude
  • Prior experience building & maturing compliance programs in the healthcare industry
  • Excellent written, verbal, team building skills, problem solving, & analytical skills


Desired Qualifications

  • CHC, CPCO, CCS certifications
  • Working knowledge of privacy laws, including HIPAA & CCPA

The Annual Base Salary Range for this role will be: $275,000 - $315,000.*
