Job Description

Vice President, Data Operations

Our client is a large reputable Financial Services firm with over $100B AUM located in Downtown Los Angeles |DTLA]. They are seeking anexperiencedVice President, Data Operationswhowill serve as the lead data steward and product owner (or co-owner) of company's Master Data Management (MDM) account master solution

Responsibilities include:

  • Developing and explicitly communicating the Product Goal;
  • Communicate prioritized business requirements to the scrum team and define acceptance criteria
  • Translate requirements into actionable stories for delivery within the agile scrum model
  • Ability to conduct data and business process analysis to identify and substantiate requirements and solutions
  • Drive and lead requirements documentation and deliver quality products within agreed upon dates
  • Makes timely decisions that affect enterprise change and removes obstacles toward progress
  • Product ownership of the MDM Account Master platform in the context of agile scrum methodology
  • Communicate effectively with Data Technology colleagues, while providing guidance and direction to achieve desired results
  • Actively seek opportunities to standardize requirements across teams and organizations
  • Coordinate requirements review meetings with business stakeholders to validate requirements
  • Data steward lead for subset of MDM Account Master data, overseeing data quality, serving as business lead for relevant change initiatives
  • Championing adherence to data governance principles, policies and best practices
  • Work with stakeholders to determine business requirements and prioritize highest value items
  • Ordering Product Backlog items; and,
  • The Product Owner is also accountable for effective Product Backlog management, which includes:
  • Focus on the vision, roadmap and prioritization of the product backlog
  • Creating and clearly communicating Product Backlog items;
  • Ensuring that the Product Backlog is transparent, visible and understood
  • Partner with MDM Account Master scrum team to review and enrich user stories and epics as needed to support backlog refinement and grooming

Qualifications

  • Experience with data governance practices, ideally with data steward experience
  • Experience with agile scrum methodology, ideally with product owner experience
  • Expertise in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Visio
  • Experience with data visualization platforms like Microsoft PowerBI or Tableau a plus
  • A team player who works well with functional and technical resources
  • Strong proven oral and written communication skills
  • Proven negotiation skills, for example in defining the scope of work and agreeing user requirements
  • 5-8 years plus of relevant experience, preferably in the financial services industry
  • A proactive mindset with ability to drive outcomes in a self-directed manner
  • Extensive experience and ability to leverage SQL to conduct data-driven analysis
  • Knowledge of MDM vendor landscape with strong preference of working within one of more of the platforms captured on the Gartner magic quadrant
  • Experience of working in a complex environment where there is a wide range of parallel and mutually dependent activities
  • Ability to effectively communicate with executive management
