Job Description

Wevise is a US-based nonprofit founded in 2022. Our mission is to make careers in the technology industry more attainable and create more diverse and inclusive tech communities through equitable access to mentorship, education, and career opportunities. We’re a team of committed volunteers from diverse backgrounds who are passionate about leveling the playing field in tech (and beyond).


Our first program, which launched in June 2023, is a mentorship platform for those looking for personal or professional guidance in the technology industry, with a focus on those from disadvantaged communities or with additional barriers.


We believe in mentoring–so much so that we have brought a paired programming methodology to each of our roles. For every position, there is an expert mentor and a less-experienced mentee who will collaborate with and learn from the mentor along the way.


Each position is filled by two people (the mentor and mentee) and the requirements for each are described below.


We are looking for two passionate UX/UI Designers to join our team at Wevise. The successful candidates will have a minimum of 3 years (mentee) or 5 years (mentor) of real world experience in visual and user interface design and experience with design systems and software design tools such as Figma, Adobe XD, or Sketch. Although these are volunteer positions, the experience and opportunity to work with a startup in the tech industry will be invaluable for your career, and watching your work change lives will be incredibly rewarding!

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the rest of the team to ensure a cohesive and user-friendly experience for our platform.
  • Create storyboards, wireframes, prototypes, and mockups in sprints as needed for improving current features and designing new ones
  • Engage with product management, engineering, business stakeholders, and third-party vendors to understand project
  • Incorporate customer feedback, usage metrics, and usability findings into design in order to enhance user experience; carry out user research as needed
  • Leverage user testing make product improvements
  • Develop and present documentation, user flows, annotated wireframes, and interactive prototypes
  • Contribute to the development of a comprehensive design language system but also serve as its guardian, ensuring its seamless application across all our digital touchpoints.
  • Develop and conceptualize a comprehensive UI/UX design strategy for the brand
  • Create original graphic designs (e.g. images, sketches and tables)


Qualifications

  • Mentee: minimum of 3 years of professional experience and willingness to work with and learn from your mentor
  • Able to contribute a minimum of 5 hours a week
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Human Computer Interaction (HCI), Design, or a related field of study
  • Mentor: minimum of 5 years of professional experience and willingness to support your mentee
  • A portfolio of past design work
  • Ability to manage time effectively
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • A basic understanding of front-end development and a willingness to learn new skills and disciplines
  • Great organization and attention to detail
  • Open to feedback and willingness to work in a team
  • Able to attend occasional meetings and respond in a timely manner to team members via Discord
