New York

Oxford Economics is a leading global provider of economic forecasts, research, and consulting solutions. We are seeking a US Economist to work within the US macro forecasting and research team. The position will be based in New York.

The US macro team, which comprises around eight other economists, reports to the Managing Director for Macro and Investor Services and is responsible for all of Oxford Economics’ US macro forecasts and research, including contributions to a number of OE’s global publications and macro-related consultancy projects as appropriate.

The team has an outstanding forecasting track record and produces high quality economic research. We offer a collegial working environment where you will receive regular opportunities to work with high-profile macroeconomists on topical issues, and coaching to enhance your professional skills. This is an exciting opportunity to join a fast-growing company at the forefront of the industry.

Key responsibilities are:
  • Learning the use of the Oxford Economics Global Economic Model, the tool that informs our macroeconomic projections and scenarios, and demonstrating it to clients.
  • Producing regular commentary and analysis of the US economy including contributions to our data insights and regular monthly publications as well as regular in-depth research reports covering topical US macroeconomic issues.
  • Providing media commentary as requested on macroeconomic themes.
  • Help develop Oxford Economics’ presence in the US markets and providing client support.
  • Supporting sales and marketing by presenting Oxford’s view and products to a diverse audience, ranging from financial firms, public institutions or industrial companies.
  • Supporting the Chief Economist and Lead Economists
Required skills include:

  • Three to four years of experience as a macroeconomist covering an aspect of the US economy.
  • First rate analytical and quantitative skills. Experience in time series econometrics is essential. Experience in macroeconomic modelling and producing forecasts is a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to explain economic concepts to a diverse audience, including non-specialists.
  • A degree in economics, preferably at postgraduate level and with a superb academic record.

Expected base pay for this role may vary between $90,000 to $120,000 per year, determined on the candidates relevant education, skill, experience level and location. The base pay is part of the total compensation and benefits which also includes a discretionary performance based annual bonus.
