Job Description

**This position is eligible to work from home anywhere in the United States**
Essential Functions:
  • Assesses coverage, limits, and pricing on complex accounts and provides branches with authorizations on accounts above branch authority.
  • Acts as a strategic partner for branches and offers guidance on complex underwriting issues and strategy. Evaluates complex underwriting risks and provides analysis and guidance to all branch underwriting staff in determining the acceptability of business.
  • Creates and communicates best practices and underwriting guidance to all of EMC. Acts as a strategic partner for branches and other corporate departments. Serves as a highly skilled technical expert in Corporate Underwriting on responses to questions.
  • Reviews and studies proposed changes in rules, rates, and forms for various assigned lines controlled by NCCI, state bureaus, and company programs and prepares any necessary changes and new information for company manuals, policy forms and statistical coding.
  • Analyzes premium and loss data and other key reports on monthly and quarterly basis and proactively communicates and makes necessary recommendations to management for improvement needed to meet company goals and improve underwriting results.
  • Leads, researches and coordinates the ownership, execution, strategy, administration, and development of products and programs at enterprise level primarily for Workers' Compensation.
  • Develops new product ideas, reviews existing and drafts new coverage language. Evaluates the cost and benefit of market opportunities and product initiatives and recommends actions based on evaluation, including identifying product improvements for complex products and recommending pricing strategies
Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a business or insurance related field, or equivalent relevant experience
  • Insurance designations, such as AU, CIC, or CPCU preferred
  • Ten years of commercial property and casualty underwriting including at least three years of staff underwriting experience
Per the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, the hiring range for this position for Colorado-based team members is $110,000 - $142,000. The hiring range for other locations may vary.
**Candidates may qualify for a Sr. Underwriting Product Consultant if they meet these requirements
  • Ten years of experience with commercial property and casualty underwriting including at least five years of staff underwriting experience within specific area of expertise
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a business or insurance related field, or equivalent relevant experience
  • Insurance certifications, such as CPCU, AU or CIC preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills, including presentation skills
  • Occasional travel; a valid driver’s license with an acceptable motor vehicle report per company standards required if traveling
  • Advanced, proven knowledge of companywide and countrywide underwriting techniques, terminology, policies, and forms
  • Excellent underwriting judgment and decision-making skills
  • Strong computer knowledge, Internet and keyboarding skills
  • Ability to work effectively with others, as well as independently and possess demonstrated problem-solving abilities
Per the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, the hiring range for this position for Colorado-based team members is $119,000 - $153,000. The hiring range for other locations may vary.
