Job Description

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Manager reports to the VP of Trucking and manages a team of Drivers in Burton’s day-to-day delivery on customer needs and expectations with the goal of achieving departmental performance goals. This includes resource allocation, employee engagement, trucking program development and delivery, supervision and management of resources, financial management and the quality aspects of delivery operations. This position will require time in the office and in the field.


Responsibilities include:

  • Perform annual performance management activities for direct reports, aligned with HR practices.
  • Manage day-to-day assignment of jobs to team and delivery of those jobs in a way that aligns with budgetary requirements and meets or exceeds expectations for quality and customer satisfaction.
  • Other Duties as assigned.
  • Lead the team in a way that exudes professionalism, respect, safety, fairness, and integrity to develop and grow trust-based relationships with employees and customers.
  • Participate in the execution of strategic initiatives for continuous improvement.
  • Communicate daily with Sales and Dispatch, assisting Dispatch with changes throughout each day, as needed.
  • Maintain a safe and positive work atmosphere.
  • Develop a high-performing team of consistent, professional employees who are a positive reflection of Burton and our values. This includes participation in recruiting, performance management and separations.
  • Ensure collection of all necessary customer information (names, locations, AFEs, cost codes, etc.) to enable effective ticketing and billing for each job.
  • Meet availability and compliance goals for all DOT trucks through great relationships and coordination with the Maintenance Team, explaining and managing day-to-day prioritization of shop efforts. This includes presence of all required documentation within each truck and regular review and remediation of Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIRs).
  • Participate in pre-pad/job walk meetings with Customers and Contractors to identify hazards or unique requirements of any job.
  • Solicit business from assigned customers, serving as an extension of Sales to expand business relationships and revenue.
  • Analyze daily performance measures; identify weaknesses, recommending changes to the VP of Trucking to ensure that division/company productivity objectives are achieved.
  • Coordinate and collaborate effectively with other Burton departments.
  • Ensure timely field ticketing and payroll accuracy.
  • Conduct regular 1-1s with all DOT personnel.
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance, along with on-call duties.

  • Experienced in oilfield and/or trucking operations.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Self-starter who works well under pressure through prioritization, expectation management, a calm demeanor and simple, determined grit.
  • Exudes integrity, trustworthiness, courage, and optimism in taking on challenges and ambiguity.


WORK/ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (WITH OR WITHOUT AN ACCOMMODATION)

  • Hearing and vision (both correctable) are essential.
  • Shop, Field, and Office environment, using computer, telephone, other office equipment as needed to perform duties, frequent interruptions throughout day likely.
  • Essential: continuous sitting, standing, wrist turning, grasping, pinching, and finger manipulation, frequent turning and twisting, and occasional reaching.
  • Occasionally required to lift or carry up to 50 lbs. push/pull occasionally required for up to 50 lbs.
  • Weather elements can be extreme cold, heat and wind.
