Job Description


SCOPE AND NATURE OF WORK: The Transcripts Department is responsible for creating publication-quality transcription of teleconferences and webcasts of corporate earnings calls and other financial events.


Independent Contractor Job, Defined: On a rush basis, the Independent Contractor, otherwise referred here as 'proofer' will be responsible for the editing and/or proofreading workflow. The proofer is expected to boost and improve the quality of the scoped or ASR/machine copy to the expected accuracy level and should only incur minimal to no content and style/format error. These errors are primarily related to terminology, numeric values and personnel names. The proofer may also be required to conduct internet research to validate this information. Editing/Proofing is the last full pass-through of the transcript that is done in conjunction with listening to the audio. The proofer‘s job is to listen to the audio, catch any errors remaining in the transcript, as well as document the errors so that the preceding roles can be properly scored. The transcript is considered to be in its final form (100%) on completion of the editing/proofing cycle.


On average, editing/proofing should be completed within 3 times the length of the call, which are, on average, just under an hour long; however, the difficulty and the quality of the transcript provided will be considered when calculating turnaround requirements, e.g. if the call is considered easy, proofing should be accomplished in less than 3X, if difficult, a longer turnaround will be allowed. Most calls are considered normal with a 3X turnaround requirement.


Volume of Work and Seasonal nature of proofing jobs: The work is cyclical and corresponds with the four earnings seasons: January, April, July, and October. Each earning season is 4-6 weeks depending on whether it is quarterly or year-end. During earnings seasons (peak) there will be weekday and, possibly, weekend work available. Outside of earnings season (off-peak), there is some on-going work, but at much, much lower volumes.


During high capacity days and when work is available there are no restrictions on the maximum number of assignments an Independent Contractor may complete. On the other hand, off-peak season is generally characterized with low volume of jobs, and as such, proofing volume is not guaranteed to be assigned.


All *** Global Market Intelligence, proofers are Independent Contractors. This means that the relationship is “at will” for both the proofer and *** Global Market Intelligence. We deem it important that the business relationship between us and the proofer is beneficial to both parties given the volume of tasks the organization can offer and the availability of the proofer.


Termination Of Work


Regrettably, *** Global Market Intelligence may find it necessary to sever our relationship with a proofer whose work product fails to consistently meet our certification standards for production work.
