Minimum Qualifications


The ideal candidate has a collegial attitude, sound judgment and the ability to work independently and as part of a team, with frequent interruptions, deadlines and changes in workflow. Excellent organizational and creative problem-solving skills are essential, as is adaptability, attention to detail, and proficiency in planning, managing, and prioritizing both daily work and long-term projects from multiple sources.


As an Investigative Aide is required to communicate with the public, federal, state, and local agencies/entities and other members of law enforcement, it is necessary that the candidate present professionally and possesses strong oral and written communication skills. In addition, candidates must be proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel, be adept at learning how to use both proprietary computer applications and law enforcement databases. Prior New York State or city government experience is helpful, though not necessary. A bachelor’s degree is required.


New York State Residency and strict adherence to confidentiality is required.


Duties Description


The Offices of the Inspector General (“OIG”) are comprised of three offices, derived from three appointments held by Inspector General Lucy Lang: The Office of the New York State Inspector General (“NYSIG”), as established by Executive Law Article 4-A, which is entrusted with the responsibility of ensuring that New York State government, its employees, and those who work with the State meet the highest standards of honesty, accountability, and efficiency; The Office of the New York State Welfare Inspector General (“OWIG”), as established by section 74 of the Executive Law, which is responsible for maintaining the integrity of New York State’s public assistance programs; and The Office of the New York State Workers’ Compensation Fraud Inspector General (“WCFIG”), as established by section 136 of the Workers’ Compensation Law, which is responsible for investigating violations of the laws and regulations pertaining to the operation of the workers’ compensation system. Additionally, as of June 18, 2021, the duties and responsibilities of the former Office of the Gaming Inspector General were transferred to and encompassed by NYSIG, including the duty to receive and investigate complaints from any source concerning allegations of corruption, fraud, criminal activity, conflicts of interest or abuse in the Gaming Commission.



OIG conducts in-depth investigations and analysis of alleged criminal wrongdoing, corruption, conflicts of interest, fraud and abuse in New York State agencies/entities which fall under its jurisdiction. Investigative Aides (IAs) provide administrative support and assistance to the investigative, legal and audit units in all aspects of the investigatory process. This includes, but is not limited to compiling case documents, coordinating schedules with investigatory teams, law enforcement agencies, witnesses and staff of covered agencies, tracking issued subpoenas and document requests and the return of responsive materials, assisting in the redaction and preparation of documents for discovery, proofreading and editing internal and external materials, constituent correspondence, and the creation of agendas and meeting minutes. In addition, IAs provide direct administrative support for the office’s senior staff, as well as assist in statewide administrative functions.
