Job Description
JOB TITLE: TECHNICAL DIRECTOR
REPORTS TO: EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
EFFECTIVE DATE: 4/6/23
The Technical Director is responsible for developing and implementing technical plans and association policies, maintaining an open dialogue with stakeholders, driving organizational success, and overseeing technical operations. Technical Director will manage and advance SBCA’s strategic technical objectives.
Technical Director Responsibilities:
· Management and maintenance of SBCA’s technical documents and intellectual property, including but not limited to BCSI, SRRs, Jobsite Packages, TTBs, and other technical related publications and documents.
· Oversee SBCA’s industry testing with third party administrators including authoring test plans and testing reports articulating findings from testing and relevance to SBCA members and broader component manufacturing and construction industries.
· Review previously developed content, testing and intellectual property for SBCA for ongoing relevance and accuracy in current operating environments.
· Author scientific research reports on behalf of SBCA based on engineering practices, knowledge, publicly available resources, and testing information known to SBCA.
· Development and ongoing review of SBCA’s technical best practices including authoring, publishing, and presenting articles, papers, educational content, reports, webinars, and other electronic, and physical content.
· Act as a technical resource for SBCA members, industry partners, other trade associations and groups, design professionals, building officials, fire officials, general contractors, framers (component installers), elected officials, students, and educators.
· Oversee SBCA’s third party quality assurance program including oversite of associated ISO/IEC 17020 accreditation, overseeing, and managing QA inspectors and related activities.
· In person and virtual speaking engagements at relevant conferences, meetings, chapter events, etc.
· Represent the best interests of SBCA and its membership with various other trade organizations, councils, associations, standards organizations, etc.
Technical Director Requirements:
· Practical component industry experience strongly recommended.
· Superb interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.
· Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
· Able to excel in high-pressure situations.
· Deep understanding and familiarity of building codes used throughout the United States.
· Understanding of SBCA’s technical best practices and policies related to technical aspects of component manufacturing preferred, but not required.
· Deep knowledge and working understanding of ANSI/TPI-1 National Design Standard for Metal Plate Connected Wood Truss Construction including capacity to participate in future development of the TPI-1 standard preferred, but not required.
· Bachelor’s degree in structural engineering, equivalent, or equivalent work experience.
· Master’s degree in engineering preferred, but not required.
· Professional Engineer License preferred, but not required.
· Proficient in Microsoft Office.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
· Recruit, interview, hire, and train new staff.
· Oversees relevant daily workflow of SBCA.
· Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations.
· Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.
· Performs other related duties as assigned.

Work from Home
This is a Work from Home position and not centric to a specific geographic location. Successful candidate will be located within the United States and have high-quality, functional, high speed internet access. Computer and accessories will be provided by SBCA while the candidate is expected to have a desk or workspace capable of creating a successful work environment. Travel to SBCA meetings, conferences, staff meetings, and additional SBCA related purposes may be required.

Physical Requirements
· Withstand prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
· Ability to type at a fast pace for long periods.
