Team Lead - Coding

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Team Lead will provide support to a team of coders. This person will act as the go to person for questions and issues. This includes but is not limited to; training and mentoring of team, reviewing coding documents, delegating work assignments, manage workflows, managing timecards, PTO requests, work with the manager to resolve personnel issues. This position will code charge tickets work special projects assigned by manager. A coder is a highly proficient employee with a solid understanding of the entire billing workflow. Performs all coding functions and assists other areas in the billing department as assigned by the manager. Will be the first line to identify and resolve problems and/or reports more difficult issues to the manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Identify cosmetic and/or prepaid cases where the anesthesia record does not stipulate start/end times for each procedure.
• Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
• Work with the department manager to resolve personnel issues.
• Assist with staff evaluations
• Aids in monitoring coding team
• Participate in reviewing charge tickets that are sent back from the billers for additional information providing feedback where necessary.
• Maintains strictest confidentiality.
• Reviews medical records for supporting documentation for charge tickets
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Oversee/perform Provider audits of E & M selection, providing feedback to provider
• Codes Anesthesia charge tickets
• Communicate changes to the rules and guidelines to the staff
• Assists with updating and maintaining all policies and procedures for the department.
• Communicate management goals and objectives to team
• Research and answer questions and concerns of team members
• Adherence to and compliance with information systems security is everyones responsibility. It is the responsibility of every computer user to: Know and follow Information Systems security policies and procedures. Attend Information Systems security training, when offered. Report information systems security problems.
• Reviews anesthesia records for supporting documentation for charge tickets
• Identify training needs of staff and coordinate learning sessions on these matters
• Reviews CPT, ICD-9, ASA and HCPCS coding on charge tickets
• Aids in monitoring additional information tracking logs of coders ensuring resolution is achieved.
• Communicates issues and questions to management when appropriate.
• Coordinate/provide training of new employees

Non-Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Education/Licensing/Certification:

• High School graduate. Associate degree in business administration or related area preferred.
• CCSP or CPC professional certification is required.

Experience:

• 1+ year of surgical, E & M coding required
• 1 + year of anesthesia coding required
• 3+ years of coding experience in business office, hospital, or physician practice setting required.

Knowledge and Skills:

• Skill in gathering and reporting information.
• Knowledge of organization policies, procedures, and systems.
• Ability to work effectively with staff, physicians and external customers.
• Knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, ASA and HCPCS coding.
• Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
• Skill in verbal and written communication.
• Skill in computer applications including MS Word, MS Excel.
• Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid and Workers Compensation rules and regulations.
• Must display a positive teamwork attitude and strong interpersonal skills
• Accustomed to working in a fast paced/metrics system
• Must report to work consistently on time, and for expected duration.
• Detail oriented, capable of juggling multiple projects and accustomed to tight deadlines
• Excellent customer service skills
• Accustomed to working well under stressful situations.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $26.46 - $33.81 per hour
